Put a Pin on It!

Put a pin on it

I have been a bit obsessed with kitschy pins lately.  My obsession began thanks one of my first and favorite bloggers, Kate Gabrielle of Scathingly Brilliant.  I started with a pin featuring one of my idols, Leslie Knope.  We'll get back to the fact that I idolize a fictional character later.  Anyways...  Pins are awesome.  I've been adding them to blazers, coats, and cardigans.  And, as an extra bonus, occasionally you bring a smile to a stranger's face that reads your pin.

Birthday Wishlist

2017 Birthday Wishlist

I'll be honest, this post is not for my reader(s).**  This post is for my husband.  Since starting this blog, I have not gotten a bad gift from him.  I may not have made a full-time job out of my blog; but at least I have not had to fake like a gift in years.

**I am assuming that due to my periodic absences there are like 3 people left reading this.  Thanks to those of you that are still here.  Also, it took my 4 times to spell "absences" correctly.   I am really losing my touch.

Plaid Wrap and Faux Leather Leggings

Madewell Plaid Wrap_Faux Leather Leggings 2 Madewell Plaid Wrap_Faux Leather Leggings 1 Madewell Plaid Wrap_Faux Leather Leggings 4 Madewell Plaid Wrap_Faux Leather Leggings 3

For months I had been searching for the perfect cape wrap.  The only problem was that I did not know what I was searching for.  I spent a whole lot of time Googling "scarf with arm holes."  I had purchased blanket scarves and tried a bevy of wraps, but they were all missing those elusive arm holes.  A scarf or a wrap just wasn't doing the trick for me.  And by "trick", I mean staying on my body during any form of movement.  My other wraps looked great as long as I remained motionless.
I learned that vocabulary is the key to a fashion hunt.
Luckily, New Jersey is experiencing one last blast of winter, so I've made some use out of my late season purchase.

Lilly Pulitzer January 2017 After Party Sale Haul

Lilly Pulitzer

I woke up early the morning of Lilly Pulitzer's After Party Sale to get in that virtual line.  I really need to learn that it's not necessary.  The line got stuck and I had to get to a meeting, so I wound up not being able to shop until lunchtime.  And I realize that my early morning scramble was in vein as there were plenty of sale goodies left with I finally got in.  AND...Lilly was a little tricky this year and was adding new items throughout the day!  So here is what I got...and what I call a whole lot of restraint.  I guess real restraint and responsibility would have been not to purchase anything and deposit that money into a savings account.  But, my savings account isn't florescent and patterned.

I am starting off the new year (in mid-January) with renewed commitment to this blog and comfortable footwear.  I've always been a fancy shoe girl, but lately I have started amassing a bit of a sneaker collection.  I do like the trend of glammed up sneakers.  I can wear shiny and sparkly things AND have my toes not bleed.  I would also be remiss if I didn't talk about the printed bomber trend that's everywhere.  I love that this badass silhouette now comes in floral.  The bomber jacket aspect makes me think I can have a weekend of partying at bars and concerts, but the floral reminds me I prefer quiet and cats.  It's the small things that are going to make 2017 for me.

Free People Tunic

Free People Tunic (4) Free People Tunic (5) Free People Tunic (2) Free People Tunic (3)

I have to admit.  This maxi dress was an impulse purchase.  I saw it on the rack at Lord & Taylor during a big sale.  It was cheap and I liked the colors.  There wasn't a whole lot of thought that went into it.  When I got it home and I put it on, I thought I had just purchased a bathing suit cover up.  I didn't think it was a big deal, because my favorite tank top is actually a maternity top I accidentally purchased.  So, off I went into the world in a bathing suit cover up.

Turns out it is actually a maxi dress.  But the slits on the sides are so high that pants are a necessity.  So, I don't think it meets the basic definition of a dress.  It's more like an unnecessarily long tunic.  Super great story right?  I'll make sure to tell it at parties.

Black Friday Purchases

Black Friday Purchases 2016

I am happy to report to did most of my Black Friday shopping from the comfort of my own couch.  I shopped Anthropologie, Bloomingdale's, and Benefit.  I ventured out into the world in order to shop Bath & Body Works and TJ Maxx.  I snag Bath & Body Works' VIP tote every year because it's chock full of goodies for just $25 (like $115 worth of product, plus the tote!). It makes a great secret santa gift.  I also popped into TJ Maxx because I heard they were majorly restocking their Runway section.  While I didn't find any new arrivals I was willing to shell out the cash for, the clearance rack was bursting with beauties.  I was able to pick up a dream item of mine: a Diane von Furstenberg wrap dress!  And for only $60!

What great sales did you shop this weekend?

Bath and Body Works: $25 VIP Tote with Purchase

Floral Leggings and Chambray

Floral Leggings and Chambray 6 Floral Leggings and Chambray 5 Floral leggings and Chambray 4 Floral Leggings and Chambray 1 Floral Leggings and Chambray 7 Floral Leggings and Chambray 3 Floral Leggings and Chambray 8

I am not good with "fall" colors.  I just really really love bright colors.  Case in point: these floral leggings.  I do love a good cozy sweater and anything maroon, but I just can't get away from bright pinks and blues.  At least I paired them with a fall-appropriate top.  BUT, chambray is really kind of an all year round thing for me.  Oh well.

Printed Ted Baker and a Sarah Cardigan

Ted Baker Mixed Media Dress and LulaRoe Sarah Cardigan (4) Ted Baker Dress and Sarah Cardigan (3) Ted Baker Tribal Print Dress and LulaRoe Sarah Cardigan (1) Ted Baker Dress and Sarah Cardigan (2)

I know I've talked a lot about LulaRoe here on the blog over the past few weeks.  But, here I go again.  My newest favorite piece is the Sarah cardigan.  One of the things I love about LulaRoe is that you can mix the budget friendly pieces with more expensive pieces.  This Sarah cardigan paired with my $300 Ted Baker dress quite nicely.  Except, I got this dress off the clearance rack at Nordstrom Rack for $100.  So, this outfit is just all budget-friendly pieces.  Forget everything I have just typed.

Let's move on to the tights.  It's that time of year when I have to roll out my massive collection of tights and can finally throw away my razors.  Berkshire was nice enough to offer me tights to add to my collection.  Berkshire's collection is made to fit all shapes and sizes.  They also offer a wide range of control top tights, which are (dare I say it) comfier than the Spanx brand.  And I can attest that I wore these all day and didn't get any form of a wedgey.   Berkshire is offering my readers 15% of their order with code "blogger15."

P.S.  I know I have been on an extended blogger hiatus.  A vacation and then an inability to recover my work life after said vacation is to blame.  I will be back next week with a more regular schedule and the link up!
