Favorite Fashion Friday #52

This week's fav outfit comes from Garments Speech.  Midi skirts are huge this season and florals are always welcome on this blog.  And a denim jacket is always a good accessory.  So, pretty much this outfit has found a home on this blog.

Look What I Got: Tired Eyes

I just returned from a short vacation to San Francisco featuring a whirlwind of activity (including a wedding).  After starting the trip by being awake for 24 hours straight due to flight delays, I definitely needed some heavy duty eye cream to look human the next day.  Unfortunately, my eye cream did not make it into the suitcase.  So, while I primped for a long day of bridesmaid duties, I texted the above picture to the Scot and he had to retrieve some magic elixir for me from Target.  And I must say, Neutrogena's Rapid Wrinkle Repair Eye Cream is magical.  It instantly plumped up the wrinkles. Also, I have nothing left to say about this eye cream because I am so tired that I cannot form complete thoughts.  So, this eye cream is awesome and you should buy it.

Review: Marimekko for Banana Republic

I was super duper excited when I learned that Banana Republic was collaborating with Marimekko.  I love their geometric prints and bright colors...and the quality of Banana Republic's collaborations has been fantastic.  I was most excited about the polka dot midi skirt on the far right.

However, by the time I got to the nearest Banana Republic after work, almost everything was picked over.  And my coveted skirt was sold out.  I was hesitant to purchase online during the pre-sale (to which I had access by virtue of being a Banana Republic cardholder) because I was unsure of the sizing.  And now I am regretting the decisiont o wait until the collection came out in stores.  Seriously, did people take off of work for this?!

2014-05-22 17.39.15
First, I tried on the Kivet Pleated Dress.  The quality is exactly what you expect from BR.  The fabric is soft and the fit is feminine and flattering.  Perhaps the only reason I did not walk out with this dress is because I was morning the loss of the midi skirt.  The dress fit true to size and for reference I am wearing an 8.  The hips are free, so no issues for curvy ladies.

Next up, the (some ridiculous long word I refuse to type) Hampton Shorts.  The colors on these shorts are amazing.  Perfect for summer.  The fabric is so soft and comfy.  AND, my favorite part, the shorts are an appropriate length.  No exposed BBC (bottom butt cheek).  Again, pretty true to size and no issues for curvy ladies.  I am wearing a 10 for reference.  I would actually size down if you have narrow hips or skinny legs.

And last, the shorter version of the skirt I missed out on (sold out online already).  The fabric is super soft and flowy and the skirt is a great length for weekend wear.  I recommend sizing down in this one.  I am wearing a 6 for reference.  I love love love the dots, but, again, I came here with a purpose.  However, I might go back for this skirt.

Have you tried the collection out?  Were you able to pick any thing up?  Did you get me the midi skirt in an 8?!?

On my Holibobs...

I haven't abandoned you.  I'm just on a short little holibobs (as the Scot would say) to San Francisco for a wedding and to visit my sister.  I'll be back here with the regularly scheduled programming on Thursday!

Favorite Fashion Friday #51

Shut up...is that a sequin midi skirt?  I think it is.  I am in love.  I am head over heels for this outfit from Kiss Me Darling.  I mean seriously, the shirt is hilarious, the sequins are beautiful, and the necklace is bling-a-rific.  So, in a nutshell, this is my favorite outfit of the week....maybe of the decade.

Last weekend we joined some friends for a picnic at a local winery.  We fancy.  What do you wear to a picnic lunch at a winery?  If you say any thing other than a giant hat and a vintage floral dress you are wrong.
I had been looking for an occasion to wear this dress, but one had not arisen until last weekend.  And this journey to the winery was a long one.  Not in terms of our actual travel time to the winery, but in terms of prepping this dress for the occasion.  I ordered this dress from another Instagram shop.  ( I know, I have a problem)  And it was waaay too big.  Mostly the elastic on the back of the dress had given up on life after 20 to 30 years.  So, after attempting to belt the crap out of the dress, I took it to a seamstress...who had to cut out the entire back of the dress and reconstruct it....and she did it all for $22.  It probably helps that I bring in at least one item per week to be dry cleaned.

ModCloth is launching its second Make the Cut Contest of the year! Not familiar with Make the Cut? Well, it's a fashion design contest, and in this edition, they're giving contestants a template on which to create a print pattern for a scarf. The talented winner will have their design produced by and sold on ModCloth, plus they'll receive a $500 prize! But first, the top 10 submissions will be hosted on the Be the Buyer page, where the community will vote for their faves. Design submissions will be accepted now until Friday, May 30th, and the voting begins on Monday June 9th. Official contest rules can be found here. Good luck!

This weekend I ventured into New York City for a little eating and day drinking.  And, I made a wise choice.  I wore my Toms instead of less sensible and pretty shoes.  I really think I am maturing in my old age.  I returned home after a day out with sore calves, but my feet were blister-free.  I think I made up for lack of fanciness on my feet with a brand new statement necklace and an old favorite Anthro dress.

Favorite Fashion Friday #50

The Favorite Fashion Friday link up has reached a milestone....50 link ups!  I feel like I should have done a giveaway or something else to celebrate.  I mean, I am wearing a party hat while writing this...so maybe that's enough.  But, maybe I will get a celebratory giveaway together.  If you're interested in contributing something...maybe $5 or some ad space...leave a comment.  And now on to more important business.
My favorite outfit pick this week is based on jealousy.  I WISH I looked as good as Krista from Sugar Love Chic in tulle.  I just cannot pull of those skirts, and it KILLS ME!  Maybe it's for the best.  Because if I looked as good as Krista in a tulle skirt, that's probably all I would wear.  That might get weird after a few weeks.
