November Ipsy Glam Bag Review

November 15 Glam Bag
Jelly Pong Pong Liquid Gossamer (0.27 oz  ~$23): This is probably one of the best highlighters out there.  Unlike most highlighters, it has a peachy undertone, so it's great for paler skin.

Figs & Rouge Mattifying Emulsion (0.5 oz ~$18): This was my favorite product in this month's bag. It's a mattifying pore refiner.  I love wearing it under my makeup like a primer.

SmashBox Full Exposure Mascara (3 mL ~ $10): This is one of my favorite mascaras ever.  However, I already have like 2 or 3 travel sizes.  I only have 2 eyes and there just aren't enough days in the week.

Crown Oval Concealer Brush ($7.45): This has quickly become one of my go-to make up brushes.  It's super soft and perfect for applying undereye concealer.

treStiQue Mini Matt Lip Crayon ( ~ $14) (in Chile Red):  This was my least favorite item this month.  The color was ok, but it was super drying and the crayon is so thin it's difficult to apply in one swoop.  You wind up having to color your lips in like a coloring book.

This was actually my highest value Glam Bag at $75.45!  What really drove this one up was the full size highlighter.  I almost wonder if that was put in there by mistake...haha!

Ipsy Deets
  • $10 per month
  • 5 beauty products, some full sized (2-3) in each bag
  • 1 cosmetic bag
**Full Disclosure: Ipsy is a monthly beauty subscription services.  I am in no way affiliated with Ipsy and have not received any compensation for this post.  However, I do receive points to redeem for product if I refer new subscribers with my referral link here.  All opinions are 100% mine.

A Cold Beach Day

Kate Spade Stripes and Tabbi Socks (3) Kate Spade Stripes and Tabbi Socks (4) Kate Spade Stripes and Tabbi Socks (5) Kate Spade Stripes and Tabbi Socks (7) Kate Spade Stripes and Tabbi Socks (8) Kate Spade Stripes and Tabbi Socks (9) Kate Spade Stripes and Tabbi Socks (10)

The Scot and I took advantage of the the unseasonably warm weather this weekend and journeyed down to Asbury Park.  I love the beach during colder weather.  It's so peaceful.  It was so relaxing to just stroll leisurely down the boardwalk (and take blog photos without people staring).
The temperature was just cool enough to require some jacket layering and cozy socks, but not too cold to require covering up my carefully planned outfit with a giant coat.
And speaking of cozy socks...I love these wool socks from Tabbi Socks.  They are super warm and soft. They're meant to be worn as thigh highs, but I love to slouch them down.
Sadly, the weather is stating to turn, so my cozy socks are going to have to be traded in for cozy stockings or cozy pants.

Space Stripe Selma Dress: Kate Spade (similar here & here)
Sunglasses: Kate Spade (similar, worn)
Booties: Target (similar, worn)

Pond's Wet Cleansing Towelette Review

Ponds Cleansing Cloths Review_Influenster (4)

Influenster recently sent me a packet of Pond's Wet Cleansing Towelettes.  This review is a little skewed because...well...I already use these wipes quite often.

Ponds Cleansing Cloths Review_Influenster (2)
Everything pictured (plus more) goes on my face everyday.  It takes quite a bit of time, effort, and product to look like a put-together human woman everyday.  As an eye makeup addict, soap and water just doesn't cut it for me.  I was noticing remnants of black eyeliner every morning and having to really scrub around my eyes.  This is no good for my aging under eyes.  Rubbing tears the delicate under eye skin and leads to more wrinkles. I would like to delay this inevitable aging process.  So, I need a gentler method to remove my raccoon eyes.

Ponds Cleansing Cloths Review_Influenster (5)

With 2 to 3 gentle swipes, my black eye makeup is removed without unnecessarily irritating my under eyes. The cloths are pretty soft and also create a bit of a soothing lather.

I highly recommend them for all eye makeup addicts!

Disclaimer: I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.

In My Rocks Box Lately

Oct 15 Rocks Box (2) Oct 15 Rocks Box (1) Oct 15 Rocks Box (3)

Loren Hope Carly Bracelet: $78 (purchaseworn).  Since I wore this bracelet pretty much everyday since I received it in the mail, I decided I should probably just buy it. It's the perfect layering piece.  I describe it as neutral statement piece.

Kendra Scott Elle Earrings in Magenta: $55 (purchase).  And moving on to a pair of earrings that could never be considered "neutral." I don't think there really needs to be another blogger telling you how great Kendra Scott Elle earrings are. So, I will stop here.

Perry Street Flora Crystal Necklace: $88 (worn).  And we are back to another neutral statement piece.  Perhaps I should have reorganized this list.  Oh well.  I've come too far.  Anyways, I loved this statement necklace.  It looked great with a collared shirt or a fancy blouse.

Rocks Box Deets
  • Get a FREE MONTH OF ROCKS BOX SERVICE you sign up here and use code "TARABFF"
  • $20 per month and you get 3 pieces of designer jewelry ($15  if you pre-pay for a year, $17 if you pre-pay for 6 months).

Staying Sane While Shopping for a Mother of the Bride Dress

Dressfashion Prom Dresses London

stay sane while mother of the bride dress shopping

The most difficult part of planning my wedding was picking out my mother's dress with her.  It was excrutiating.  My mom is not a fashionista and doesn't really put a whole lot of thought into her clothing.  It skips a generation I think.  However, her dress for my wedding became the only dress she's ever cared about.  Seriously, I was around for her wedding to my step-dad and I feel like she just walked into a store and said, "Give me a white dress."  Prior to starting the shopping process, I neglected to realize how important this dress was to her. And, therefore, I planned to take the appropriate planning steps.  The first shopping trip quickly dissolved into yelling and resulted in us giving up and going to the Cheesecake Factory.  I regrouped, planned, and eventually helped my mother find the perfect dress.

1. Narrow your choices
Don't set foot into a store until you've made a list of must-haves and must-nots.  There are a ton of choices and you run the risk of getting overwhelmed. Does she want a mother of the bride dress with sleeves?  Does she like lace?  What color?  If you just walk in the store without a list...you will spend the worst day of your life amongst racks of satin and lace.
2. Shop online first
Once you have a general idea of what that lady is looking for in a dress, start to peruse online.  You'll start to get an idea of which stores have dresses that fit your mom's look and style.  And, also remember, it's ok to buy a dress online!  Size up and remember it's easier to let a dress out than take it in.

3. Listen to your mother (and then disregard every negative thought she has without telling her.)
Every woman has insecurities and it's a safe bet that your mother figure will have them too. I found out while dress shopping with my mom that she hates her knees.  Her freakin' knees.  She claims she has "fat knees."  If she was accumulating fat on her joints, I am pretty sure we'd be removing her from her house in a whale sling. So, I proceeded to have a 15 minute loud discussion with my mother about her knees.  What I should have done is said, yes, I understand your complaints.  Try this dress on anyway crazy lady.
4. Don't be afraid to go bold
There are so many cookie-cutter boring mother of the bride dresses.  You know what I mean, black or navy blue with a weird little jacket.  Perhaps your mom will like those dresses, but will she feel amazing in them? As much as you as the bride will hate to admit it, your wedding day is also a little bit of your mom's day.  She will also want a little attention.  Don't be afraid to look at dresses with a low back or in a bright color.

5. Make sure the dress is special.
Look for little details that you know she'll love.  Was her wedding dress lace or scalloped?  Look at dresses that have those type of details.  If you harken back to her big day, it will make your day feel that much more special to her.  It's easier to fall in love with a dress that doesn't look like the rest.

5. Stay away from white (or any permutation thereof)
Your mom might think she looks great in white. But, stay away from ANYTHING that looks even close to white.  I am talking cream, pale pink, light beige, light gold, etc.  You might be the coolest and most laid back bride ever and not care about this.  You will care when you look at the pictures.  It will look weird.
6. Tell her to channel Susan Lucci
On the big day you mom is going to want to look beautiful, confident, and dignified.  And there is no one ladies of our mother's generation will find to embody this more than the great Susan Lucci.  Seriously, it works.  It sounds silly, but it will work. My mom finally picked a dress (after months of agony) after I told her it looked like a dress Susan Luci wore to the Emmys.  It was a complete lie.  But, she picked a dress that looked great on her and ended my misery.
Please note: I, more than anyone, recognize that family structures come in all shapes and sizes nowadays.  In an effort to recognize this, I have tried to use the term "mother figure" in this post.  However, any reference to "mother of the bride" is not meant to minimize any relationship you may have with a special lady in your life!
