I have to admit. This maxi dress was an impulse purchase. I saw it on the rack at Lord & Taylor during a big sale. It was cheap and I liked the colors. There wasn't a whole lot of thought that went into it. When I got it home and I put it on, I thought I had just purchased a bathing suit cover up. I didn't think it was a big deal, because my favorite tank top is actually a maternity top I accidentally purchased. So, off I went into the world in a bathing suit cover up.
Turns out it is actually a maxi dress. But the slits on the sides are so high that pants are a necessity. So, I don't think it meets the basic definition of a dress. It's more like an unnecessarily long tunic. Super great story right? I'll make sure to tell it at parties.
