July Beauty Favs

July 2015 Beauty Favorites

  • Urban Decay Naked Smokey Palette: I already own the Naked2Naked Basics, and Naked on the Run palettes.  You can say I am a bit of an Urban Decay fan.  And I am a fan of this new palette.  The colors are a lot different than the Naked2 or Basics palette.  It has beautiful rich grays and a purple to make a night-time smokey eye, as well as a few browns for a more day appropriate look.
  • Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Bow: And because my beauty purchases were all about the eyes this month, I also invested in this magic little serum.  Gimme brow is a liquid that sticks to the hairs of your brows and essentially builds them up and colors them, making them look fuller and filling in gaps.  The little teeny brush makes it super easy to use.  Some similar products come with a bigger brush, like a mascara wand, and this is just messy...because your brows aren't that big.  If you're not careful you wind up with brown streaks above and below the brow. And I think it's quicker than a pencil.  I typically use it in connection with a pencil, but in a pinch it's great by itself.
Did you make any great beauty finds this month?

In the Caboodle: Naked Reviews

Urban Decay has been expanding their Naked line recently, adding a BB cream, foundation, powder and lip gloss.  As a huge fan of their Naked palettes, I knew I had to try out some (or all) of the new products.

Naked Skin Ultra Definition Loose Finishing Powder: I was the most excited to try out their new loose powder.  I've always loved UD's Razor Sharp powder; however, I have an intense and burning hatred for that stupid sponge brush applicator on the container.  So, I never bought a full size of it.  I was hoping that hte Naked Ultra Definition Powder was the Razor Powder in better packaging.  It's not....it's better.  The Naked Ultra Definition Powder is supposed to be a finishing powder, but it's so much more.  It sets make up beautifully and keeps my undereye goop in place all day long.  It claims to have some sort of light reflecting properties that "optically blur" imperfections.  This just sounds like a bunch of words strung together.  My take on it...it contains fairy dust that hide my crow's feet and cavernous pores.  It also has enough tint to it that I think it acts like a powder foundation.  I've worn this just over some moisturizer for a casual daytime look with no worries.  And as an added bonus, it makes my skin feel smooth and silky.

Naked Ultra Nourishing Lip Gloss: My thoughts on this lip gloss are not as voluminous as those on the finishing powder.  It's pretty good, but has it's flaws.  The pros are that it's super light and not sticky (i.e. my hair doesn't stick to my lips when the wind blows).  The con is that it's not very long lasting.  This is not a gloss to wear out to dinner or drinking.  You'll have to reapply 75 times.  It is, however, a great running around on the weekend gloss. In case you were wondering....I have a gloss for every occasion.

Sephora Wishlist and a $45 Sephora and iTunes Giveaway!

I have a Sephora gift card burning a hole in my pocket, so I decided to make a little wishlist.
Sephora January 13 wishlist

1. Naked Skin Beauty Balm.  I am a big fan of BB Cream.  I've been using Garnier BB cream for awhile now, but I think I am ready to upgrade to something a little better.

2. Naked Skin Weightless Foundation.  I don't often wear foundation, but when I do, I don't want to feel like I am wearing a mask.  This is the lightest liquid foundation I have ever tried out.

3. Bobbi Brown Gel Eyeliner.  I've been using E.L.F. gel eyeliner for awhile.  It's $3 and it's pretty good.  This Bobbi Brown liner is just a lot better.  However, I need to make a decision as to whether it's $26 better.
4. Naked Ultra Nourishing Lipgloss.  I am a self-proclaimed lipgloss addict.  I am also a huge fan of Urban Decay's Naked line (obviously).  So, this seems like a no-brainer.

5. Naked Skin Ultra Defining Loose Finishing Powder.  Urban Decay's Razor Sharp finishing powder is pretty much the best thing ever.  However, it comes in package with a super annoying, attached foam poof.  That's the only thing stopping me from buying it.  But, now it looks like there a similar version without the annoyance.

6. Sephora Air Brush Foundation.  Ever since Mac discontinued its aerosol foundation.  It was so light and went on evenly and smoothly.  I haven't seen another one on the market...other than a $60 Dior one.

7. L'Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream.  I carry a little travel sized version of this in my purse.  It's the best hand cream ever.  I decided I should upgrade to a big boy version.

Stuff I Want: New Year...New Wishlist

After Blogger decided to take a dump on my blog last night and move my sidebar to every position except where it's supposed to be, I did not have time to put up the post I wanted.  Luckily, my blog designer Kayla came to the rescue.  However, the only way I found to fix the problem quickly was to just move my sidebar to the left.   It's totally throwing me off!  Instead, you get a list of things I want to spend money on, but probably shouldn't.

Stuff I Bought: Forever 21 Jewelry Sale

This weekend I went shopping with my buddy E.  I went to the mall with 3 purposes and I actually did not deviate from these missions and get distracted by shiny things.
My first task was to purchase new eye shadow primer.  I had previously been hopelessly devoted to Urban Decay's Primer Potion.

This stuff is magic and prevents my eye shadow from clumping into my old lady creases.  There was just one small problem with the design of the packaging, the paint kept chipping off the bottle.  This does not sound like a huge problem, however, these paint chips managed to wedge themselves into every crevice of my life.  I found them inside other makeup, on my face and hands and, most recently, on my cats' paws.  That was pretty much the final straw for me, I could handle having little flecks of purple paint on my face at lease twice a week, but now my cats were going to track more than kitty litter throughout my apartment.

So, in a fit of rage, I purchased Stila's Primer Pot.  It's also a magical product.  What I like about the Prime Pot is that you can just apply it with your finger.  Urban Decay's Primer Potion comes with a weird little brush that, after many uses, gets a little gross.  Also, you can buy the Prime Pot in s few different shades to match your skin tone, so it also acts as a foundation.

But, I did notice that Urban Decay's Primer Potion now comes in a new packaging AND comes in different shades.  So, maybe they heard my cries of rage?

My second mission was to scope out the Forever 21 jewelry sale.  All jewelry was an additional 30% off this weekend!  I got 2 sets of earrings, a necklace and a ring for $8!  Here's the Polyvore set of what I got (the ring is only a similar one because the one I got is sold out and I can not find a picture).

And as Elena has reminded me (since she was there for this shopping trip), the third mission was a FAIL.  I wanted to try on the Liquid Silk Skirt at J. Crew.  However, the small J. Crew near my place did not carry it.  I will attempt this mission again this weekend.  And, it now comes in POLKA DOTS!!
