Friday's Fancies: Miriam Gonzalez Durantez

Source
While I was off in Scotland, I did get a chance to read the newspaper.  The entire female population of Scotland lost their collective sh*t over the white dress worn by Miriam Gonzalez Durantez, the wife of the Deputy Prime Minister, to the Liberal Democrat Party Conference.  Seriously....it was front page news.  The dress was designed by Henrietta Ludgate, a Scottish designer that is committed to using locally sourced fabric.  The 'Chimera' dress worn by Durantez is made from Yorkshire jersey with the peplum detail at the hips made from recycled baseball cap peaks.
While I applaud her efforts to go green and support local designers, this dress is not exactly budget friendly at 390 lbs (about $630).  ( I don't know how to make the British money symbol in Blogger).  So, I created a budget-friendly version and added some accessories.  I tried my best.  The dress is from a UK store and the shoes are vegan.  You can donate the money you save on the dress to an environmentally minded charity.

I'm still recovering from the journey home from Scotland, so I will be back to regular blogging on Monday with stories of my adventures across the pond.

Celebrity Look for Less: Pink,' Polka Dots and Pencil Skirts

See?  I told you yellow clutches and polka dots were popular this year! Here's model Selita Ebanks wearing BOTH.
Here is how to get a similar look for a bargain.  I'm not a huge fan of the fringed vest, so I would be tempted to replace it with a cardigan or black blazer.

I am so in love with the pink pencil skirt.  J. Crew has been putting out pencil skirts in AMAZING colors, so I might cross my fingers for a pink pencil skirt in the spring collection.  I have the No. 2 Pencil Skirt in Spicy Gold and, if I had the funds, I would buy it in every color.  I think Selita's polka dot outfit would also work with J. Crew's skirt in Vibrant Flame.  What do you think?

A Lesson in Leopard

After seeing this picture of Emma Roberts at Fashion Week, all I could think was, "Where can I get a chiffon leopard dress and where can I wear one?!"

Take note, this is how you do an animal print: one big bold piece accented by neutral, simple accessories.

Emma's A-Line leopard dress is by Marchesa and probably way out of my price range.  Modcloth's Return to the Wild dress gives you a similar look for a fraction of the price.  It's a little longer than Emma's designer frock and has a slightly different shape, but this is my first stab at immitating celebrity wardrobes.  Give me a break!  I changed out the green ring she's wearing for some green enamel stud earrings.

Now, all i need to figure out is where to wear this outfit.
