A gift that (probably) won't get thrown away or returned...

Christmas Plants

Succulent in GlassOrchids / Evergreen Tree

Ever wonder if the hours you spend at the mall during Christmas season are for naught?  And that those gifts you languished over and wrapped in every sparkly ribbon you could find wind up in the return pile the day after?  I know the day after Christmas I usually spend returning ill-fitting sweaters and contemplating how I will use 10 bottles of Bath and Body works lotion.  Don't be that gift giver.

This year, give people something that will actually make them happy...a potted plant!  Ok, I know that sounds silly, but it's true.  People will actually like this gift.  They might not be 1998 Nintendo 64 excited, but they won't be 8th pair of socks disappointed either.

Everyone could use a nice live plant to brighten up their living or office space.  And, unlike cut flowers, you won't be giving them the sadness that comes with throwing away dead flowers.  (Anyone else get depressed by cut flowers?  No?  My first thought when I receive a bouquet is..."This will look nice for 2 hours and then I will have to throw it away when it dies."  Maybe I am the only lady in the world that's sad to receive flowers).

And if you are one of my across the globe readers (or one with international family like me), Fresh Flowers.com.au is offering a bonus box of chocolates with every order AND 10% off for first time buyers!  Check out their Facebook page to see more promos and get updates on when you can order Valentines Day flowers.

Disclosure: I was compensated for this post, but all opinions are 100% mine.

Merry Drunkmas!

Christmas is a time to spend with family, which (for me) means also time to spend with lots of beer.  I need a lot of it to deal with the impending questions about when I am going to be engaged and the Scot's status in this country.  My family is very concerned that I get married and that it not be to an undocumented person.
Merry Christmas everyone!

Friday night, instead of doing any thing productive to prep to Christmas, I went out for Fancy Drink Friday with some of my girls.  Apparently, beer does not qualify as a fancy drink for such an occasion.  so I had a little festive egg nog and a champagne cocktail from a punch bowl.  There were glasses...just not pictured.  And carolers showed up at the bar!  To my dismay they weren't dressed in Dickens-esque garb.  A little disappointing.
Saturday I broke out the camera, tripod and remote and had my first shot at self portraiture.  It did not go well (see above).  I looked depressed and there was a smoking pipe in the background.  It looks like the Scot is keeping his side job as my official photographer for now.

All I Want for Christmas...

So, I told you what I wanted for Christmas a few days ago.  Now, see what my sponsors are hoping to find under their tree this year.  (or menorah...do you put your Hanukkah presents under the menorah?  If not, I think I just invented an adorable tradition.)

Tomorrow I will be observing a blogging day of silence in honor of those who lost their lives and families that lost loved ones in the recent tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut.  So, I might be even later than usual in responding to comments and visiting your blogs.

Weekend Update: It's the Most Stressful Time of Year

Today I'm over at Glossy Blonde giving away some nail polish and ad space.  Go enter!

I started out this weekend by finding out that I have a possible allergy to grapefruit.  How did I find out about this allergy you ask?  Well it certainly wasn't eating one.  That's gross old lady food.  I used some new face wipes infused with grapefruit....as I was getting ready for a holiday party.  I did not attend the party because I was too busy trying to pry open my swollen eye lids and fight through a Benedryl coma.

And then the weekend got awesomer when I had to go to work on Saturday to prepare for a trial.  Well, at least someone put a lovely pointsetta on my desk.  And sometimes when  you need to do important lawyer work on the weekends, you need to wear a Little Mermaid sweatshirt (from Kohls).  No outfit photos with the sweatshirt because I did not shower before going into the office.  I am super classy.  Oh, and then the case settled by Saturday afternoon.  I proceeded to reward myself with dinner and a milkshake at Cheeburger Cheeburger.

So, I spent my unexpectedly free Sunday Christmas shopping.  According to Victoria's Secret and Target, footie pajamas are a thing.  The Scot and I are just going to give up and pretense to romance and get matching footie pajamas I guess.  I made myself to the mall 5 minutes before it opened because I was not dealing with the hoards of Christmas shoppers.  I zoomed in and out in a half hour...but then I had to go back later that afternoon when pandemonium took over.  Why did I willingly thrust myself into the belly of shopping hell?  Because of this:

I bought my mom a lovely cashimere scarf at Macy's.  On sale and with a coupon it was only $57!!  But, then I found virtually the same scarf at TJ Maxx for $29.99.  That Macy's rip off when directly back to the store.

And here is why I am not allowed to go to Target by myself:
Matching cat sweaters!!  I have lost my mind.  The Scot's response to this: "sigh."

My Grown Up Christmas List

Unlike Amy Grant's grown up Christmas list, mine does not contain a wish that wars would never start...mine contains a microwave.  Tara's grown up Christmas list = boring.  Yep.  This year I've gone super boring.  My microwave (literally) exploded and my makeup Caboodle circa 1999 just isn't cutting it any more.  Plus, my mom couldn't find friends for everyone on sale at Target.  (I tried to include the Grown up Christmas List video, but Sony doesn't want the video playing on my website...psshhh)

My Grown Up Christmas List

1. Microwave - Like I said, my microwave exploded.  I've had to actually use the stove to make hot chocolate!

2. Towel Rack - My towels are wet and strewn about the floor.  Something must be done.

3. Urban Decay Naked Palette - I have no idea how I don't already own this.

4. Scoop Back Maxi Dress - I had to put one Anthro dress on my list.  And this one looks like it shaves off about 10 lbs...which I will need on Christmas day.

5. Canon EOS Rebel T3i 18MP Digital SLR Camera - Ok this is my and the Scot's Christmas present to ourselves...and we unwrapped it already.  Get ready for some awesome photos once we figure out how to use this contraption.

6. Caboodles Makeup Pro Case - I need to upgrade my Caboodle.  Need to make room for that Naked Palette.

7. Kikkerland Planks a Lot Cutting Board Set - When a vegetarian shares a kitchen with carnivores, these seem to be necessary.

8. Vegan Toms in Slate - I don't really wear sneakers, so I need some loungin' shoes.

9. Oatmeal Fox Jumper - Who doesn't need a sweater with a fox wearing a crown on it?

Weekend Update: The Christmas Season hath Begun (and Giveaway Winner Announced)

Dress // TJ Maxx (similar here)
Boots // Macy's (worn here, similar here)
Watch // Target (similar here)
Bracelets // Michael Kors, Bauble Bar, F21 & Groopdealz (similar here and here)

I spent this weekend attending Christmas parties and decking the halls.  Apparently, my neighbors also decided to do some decorating...of the small courtyard shared by 15 apartments.  I love Christmas, but this is excessive for an area where 5 dogs have to poop and a myriad of children have to play.  The dog has already run face first into the reindeer because it's 5 feet from my door step...and my dog is an idiot.  A shopping cart has also moved into our courtyard.  It's crap-tacular over here.

However, as if to cure my grinch-y move and prevent me from kicking that stupid snowman in the face, Julep gave me a little gift.  I won a freakin' golden box!!!  If you don't know, Julep has a monthly nail polish subscription.  Julep selects a random customer that ordered monthly box to win a box full of a butt-ton of nail polish.  (A butt-ton is approximately $180 worth).

And here's the winner of my super awesome November giveaway:  I'll be emailing you soon!
