March Ipsy Glam Bag Review

March 15 Glam Bag

Pixi by Petra Mineral Duo (0.03 oz. ~$7.50):  I think Pixi is a great brand for the price.  These eye shadows are very pigmented and go on smooth.  I don't think they are as long lasting as some higher end brands though.

NYX Butter Lipstick (Full size, $6):  This is the most moisturizing lipstick I have ever used.  it goes on so smooth!  Unfortunately, the color was not for me.

Acure Day Cream (1 oz ~ $10): I really liked this cream.  It has a very slight, pleasant smell and kept my skin hydrated under all of my makeup.

Chella Ivory Lace Highlighter (Full size, $18): This is supposed to be a Swiss Army knife-like tool, being able to be used for highlighting, for the waterline, to cover dark under eye circles, and to disguise blemishes.  I straight up thought this was a Wet and Wild white eyeliner from the 90's.  No way I would have put this under my eyes.  The under eye skin is super sensitive and tears easily, causing wrinkles.  This stuff was NOT smooth to apply. Also, it's basically a white glitter.  it did not blend with my skin AT ALL.

Skyn Iceland Eye Gels (2 sets ~ $7.50): These are my new favorite beauty secret!  They hydrate under my eyes and really eliminate puffiness and fine lines.  They feel so luxurious too!  Like a little personal spa.  I used these the night before my wedding and the makeup artist commented on how good my undereyes looked.

This might be the best deal of an Ipsy bag I've ever gotten!  $69!
Ipsy Deets

Spring Florals and Sparkle

IMG_1224 IMG_1222 IMG_1221 IMG_1237 IMG_1243 IMG_1245 IMG_1244 IMG_1246

My wardrobe definitely has a lot of 2 things: florals and sparkles.  And now that it's starting to warm up here in NJ, I can bring them out together.  I knew this Calvin Klein dress would be a perfect addition to my collection of florals.  I saw it as a descended the escalator at Macy's.  It was love at first sight.  The Scot and I were taking advantage of our post-wedding registry discount at Macy's when this pretty floral lady caught my eye.  I almost ran up the down escalator to try and get to her.  Luckily, I came to my senses and realized this dress and I could live without eachother for the 30 seconds it took me to do a U turn and go back upstairs.  And as luck would have it, the dress was on sale AND I was able to use a coupon!

Look What I Got: Better than Lilly for Target

Sold Out LP for Target Shifts

As you've probably heard, the Lilly Pulitzer for Target collection sold out in a matter of hours and sent basic b**ches everywhere into a tizzy.  I have been known to partake in a brightly colored shift dress myself, but not much gets me out of bed on a Sunday before 10 am.  Don't get me wrong, if I saw one of these coveted shifts sitting in the dressing room in one of my weekly Target trips, I would squeal with joy.  However, I think that the purpose of the collection (i.e. affordable Lilly for the masses) has been a bit diluted by the marked up eBay listings.  There are much better ways to get a Lilly shift below the $200 retail price.  You can check out discount sites like the Preppy Outlet or used clothing sites like Poshmark.  Or you can wait for the real deal during Lilly Pulitzer's twice a year After Party Sale.  Or you could forsake Lilly altogether and look at any of the other thousands of  shift dresses on the internet.
I don't want to forget that the Target collection contained more than the shift dresses.  There were accessories, shoes, and home items.  Below are a few similar items I found that might quench your thirst for brightly colored items.

Lily Target Espadrilles Alternatives

You can't go wrong with a pair of Soludos.  They may be the best shoes ever created.  Sorry Toms.
Lily for Target Headband Alternative

The Target collection cashed in on the turban headband trend.  However, these things are freakin' everywhere.  And for cheaper than the Target collection.  For example, Vera Bradley for only $16!  And of course Shopbop has a whole bunch of turban headbands.

Lily for Target Pineapple bowl and juicer alternative
And now everyone wants a gold-rimmed pineapple everything.  I can't give you the gold rim, by Envilu has a pineapple bowl for just $25.50!  Envilu doesn't have a pineapple adorned juicer, but theirs has a freakin' bird on it.  I think that's even cooler.

Swagbucks Pays for the Movies!

We all love going to the movies during the summer. Whether you prefer the biggest blockbusters or the sweetest romantic comedy, Swagbucks can get you into the movies for free! Swagbucks is a rewards site that gives you points called “Swag Bucks” for things like searching, watching videos & browsing articles. You redeem those Swag Bucks for gift cards to places like Amazon, PayPal -- and yes, even to the movies.
I'm still a relative newbie at earning Swagbucks, but I am well on my way to earning a $25 Target gift card!  I am saving up!
Here’s how Swagbucks can help you can turn watching videos online into your watching movies in the theater for free.  Earning 1,500 SB gets you enough for a $15 movie gift card from AMC or Regal Cinema! Whether you’re on the go, at home, or stuck at a desk, here’s how you can get your $15 movie gift card in just 1 week:
  • SBTV mobile on Android & iOS: Earn up to 36 SB per day watching everything from food videos & news to Hulu clips & music videos - 252 SB
  • Moviecli.ps app on Android & iOS: Get 18 SB per day watching the latest movie trailers - 126 SB
  • EntertaiNOW app on Android & iOS (US only) - You can also earn another 18 SB per day checking out news on movies and TV shows, behind-the-scenes interviews and celebrity gossip - 126 SB
  • SBTV on Desktop: Watch a little bit of everything, including Hulu clips & music videos, but with a higher earning cap of 150 SB per day - 1,050 SB
When you have a specific SB goal (like a $15 AMC or Regal Cinema gift card) and a plan of action, you’ll get gift cards faster and check out the newest action-comedy or Oscar-nominated drama without spending extra money. There are even more ways to earn SB online, so take a look around and see what works best for you. You don’t have to wait until the next blockbuster comes out to start saving up with Swagbucks!
If you're not a Swagbucks member yet, sign up here!

Polka Dots, a Midi Skirt, and Transitions

IMG_0684 IMG_0688 IMG_0696 IMG_0695
Midi skirts are the perfect winter to spring transition pieces in my opinion.  If you chose not to wear them with tights, they still provide a little more coverage on cooler days.  And they can be paired with booties to keep your toesies warm or some peep toe heels once it gets warmer.  Right now I have to keep on a light sweater and some layers because it just isn't warm enough for that crop top quite yet (which also looks great with a high-waisted midi).

Midi Skirt: J. Crew (similar)
Sweater: J. Crew (options)
Polka dot button down: J. Crew (similar)
Booties: Macy's (similar)
Watch: Fossil (similar)
Bracelet: Groopdealz (similar)
Necklace: Perry Street via Rocks Box

Review: YSL Volume Effet Faux Cils Mascara

IMG_1118

I have always been a drugstore mascara kinda gal.  But, a few weeks ago I received the YSL VoxBox from Influenster, and I have pretty much forsaken all other mascaras.  The Yves Saint Laurent MASCARA VOLUME EFFET FAUX CILS is a luxurious mascara with a false lash effect.  It's made with B5 Pro-Vitamin to strengthen and protect lashes, which also causes it not to clump.  I absolutely love it.

IMG_1120

It's a little bit pricier than my usual drugstore mascara at $32, but it might be worth a splurge.  My lashes feel thick and healthy after using this stuff.  Seriously, even the gold tube is luxurious!

*I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.
