Look What I Got: Vintage Dress and a Trench

When it's raining and you have to go to a wedding, a nice trench is an option to protect your dress while still looking presentable.  However, there isn't really such an option for your hair. Oh wait, there is.  You can just have the Scot drop you off directly at the door to the ceremony and then to the reception.

Ted Baker Jeweled Dress

This past weekend I slid my dancing shoes on to my feet, crammed my mid-section into a pair of spanx, and clipped a pile of fake hair to my head.  I would have also glued a bunch of fake eyelashes to my face, but I ran out of glue.  As I recount all of the torture devices I required just for a night out, I am reminded as to why I often spend Saturday night on the couch (and how ridiculous my going out preparations really are).  Side note...the hair extensions aren't actually torturous to wear.  It's just an odd feeling to double the amount of hair on your head.  It often feels like a cat is sneaking up on you.

Just when you thought wedding season was over, you get to fall and a whole new wedding season begins.  This transitional season can be a tough one for fashion.  However, personally, I think an A-line silhouette is timeless and season-less.  A-line dresses with full skirts and a fitted top make everyone's waist look smaller.  And with the full skirt (and a structured top), you can leave the Spanx at home. They can restrict your dance moves anyway.

Although this dress style is reminiscent of the 1950's, if you're not into the vintage look, you can still cultivate a timeless ensemble with this silhouette.  Or you can go all out and pair with vintage accessories!

For this transitional time, I picked a few dresses in bright jewel tones.  Just because we have to say goodbye to the pastels of spring and the neons of summer, doesn't mean we have to abandon color!  I think it's still a little too early in the season to go for maroons and deep reds.  There's still time to be bright and bold.  However, I don't think I ever put away the bright colors...even when the snow starts falling.  But, ignore me, because I never wear seasonally appropriate colors in the colder weather.

Black and White Wedding Looks with Sherry London

I know you've heard my views on wearing white to a wedding...any amount of white.  However, sometimes (emphasis on the sometimes) if you pair just the right amount of white with black, it can be an appropriate, formal wedding look.  You do have to be careful though.   First, you want to make sure that the dominant color is black (i.e. a black dress with white accents).  Second, make sure the silhouette is not too "bridal."  Don't get a long mermaid-style dress! Sherry London has quite a few dresses that fit the bill.  Sherry London offers a pretty wide array of prom dresses, evening dresses, and cocktail dresses.   But, I think they really hit the mark with their glamorous (and affordable) evening looks.

What to Wear to a Beach Wedding with Rent the Runway

One of the favorite places for New Jersey-ans to have a wedding is down the shore.  However, a beach or dockside wedding is quite difficult for a guest.  You have to be dressed up enough to dance the night away at the fancy dinner portion, but also be prepared for searing heat and itchy sand (or the annoying spaces between the planks of a boardwalk) during the ceremony.  As always, I turn to Rent The Runway,  If you don't already know, Rent the Runway offers high end clothing and accessories for rent at a fraction of the retail price!

What to Wear to a Vineyard Wedding with Rent the Runway

For the brave wedding guest, try a fancy jumpsuit!  I know most ladies like to wear heels with their jumpsuits to elongate their legs.  Get a higher waisted jumpsuit and you can get away with flats in my opinion.  I thought this jump suit could be paired with bolder accessories.  It's not an outfit for the faint of heart!

I said florals were an obvious choice for a winery wedding. So, is a maxi dress.  Why not do both!  Because the print on this dress is bold, I kept the accessories simple and went with flat shoes again.  No one is really going to see your feet in a maxi!

Winter Wedding Wear with Rent the Runway

I bet you were waiting anxiously through the holidays (and many days thereafter) for the big reveal of which dress I chose for a recent wedding. Ok, probably not.  Sadly, I could not get my hands on the fan favorite from the poll because I ordered too late.  I was, however, able to get this little shiny silver medal.  This dress was the perfect amount of sparkle for a wedding during the holiday season.  And by perfect amount, I mean A LOT.  However, it managed to not be heavy.  Which was a good thing, because I danced my ass right off!

I rented this dress from Rent the Runway for a wedding...and I almost didn't want to give it back.  I imagined me and my glittery beauty evading authorities and running off to Mexico together to live sparkly ever after.  I eventually came to my senses and sent my sparkly love back in her UPS carriage. Ok, enough about my envisioned clothing elopement.  Here are the deets on RTR in case you don't know.  For the price of your rental ranging between $50 and several hundred) you get your designer dress in 2 different sizes and for $25 you can get a second style as a back up.  I know, you're panicking (like I did on my first rental) about the dress not fitting.  If nothing fits you can send everything back and get a refund (in rental credit, though).  My recommendation is to size up and read the fit reviews carefully.  In my experience, the more expensive the dress...the smaller the sizes.  I have not had a problem with the backup size and the dresses have always arrived nicely pressed and on time. Oh...and....for $15 you can get what RTR calls a "Stylish Surprise."  The RTR styling experts pick out the perfect accessory for your outfit.  They picked out those gorgeous earrings to compliment the dress.    Have you ever tried Rent the Runway?   And if you use my referral link you get a $20 credit on your first rental!  (So do I...hehe).
