Daytime Sequins and Chambray

Sequins and Chambray (2) Sequins and Chambray (3) Sequins and Chambray (1)
I am a big supporter and advocate of sequins.  However, it's pretty difficult to incorporate into a daytime outfit.  I said difficult...not impossible.  I am willing to test drive a few sequin adorned daytime look for my craft.  And I think my first attempt went pretty well.  I utilized an old blogger trick.  When all else fails...add chambray.  I threw in some booties, a tee, and a cross body bag to dress down the sequins.  I may have gone a little too heavy with the jewelry.  But, I just can't helo myself.

Vegas Outfit Planning with Rent the Runway

In a few weeks I am flying off to Las Vegas for a friend's bachelor party. I absolutely hate packing.  I always over-pack and then I can't carry my own suitcase through the airport.  So, this time I decided to utilize Rent the Runway!  They'll deliver directly to the hotel we are staying at (I already called to find out all the address and shipping information that has to be sent to RTR) and there's a RTR store in Vegas, so I can exchange anything that doesn't fit!  I am opting to go for 2 evening dresses and a daytime dress.  That's a whole bunch of stuff I don't need to cram into my suit case!
Check out the looks I put together!

I bet you were waiting anxiously through the holidays (and many days thereafter) for the big reveal of which dress I chose for a recent wedding. Ok, probably not.  Sadly, I could not get my hands on the fan favorite from the poll because I ordered too late.  I was, however, able to get this little shiny silver medal.  This dress was the perfect amount of sparkle for a wedding during the holiday season.  And by perfect amount, I mean A LOT.  However, it managed to not be heavy.  Which was a good thing, because I danced my ass right off!

Yes, I know that my feet are cut off in all of theses pictures.  No, the Scot did not forget how to take blog photos.  He is a true professional.  My shoes are not featured in these pictures because I finally succumbed to the power of the snow and ice and wore sensible shoes.  However, sensible does not equal cute.  Big ugly boots just did not go with my sequin blazer and Loren Hope earrings.  I just made sure to go out that night to a place where I was sitting and no one would look at my shoes.  Just pretend I am barefoot.

Do you ever put fashion over comfort?

I rented this dress from Rent the Runway for a wedding...and I almost didn't want to give it back.  I imagined me and my glittery beauty evading authorities and running off to Mexico together to live sparkly ever after.  I eventually came to my senses and sent my sparkly love back in her UPS carriage.
Ok, enough about my envisioned clothing elopement.  Here are the deets on RTR in case you don't know.  For the price of your rental ranging between $50 and several hundred) you get your designer dress in 2 different sizes and for $25 you can get a second style as a back up.  I know, you're panicking (like I did on my first rental) about the dress not fitting.  If nothing fits you can send everything back and get a refund (in rental credit, though).  My recommendation is to size up and read the fit reviews carefully.  In my experience, the more expensive the dress...the smaller the sizes.  I have not had a problem with the backup size and the dresses have always arrived nicely pressed and on time.
Oh...and....for $15 you can get what RTR calls a "Stylish Surprise."  The RTR styling experts pick out the perfect accessory for your outfit.  They picked out those gorgeous earrings to compliment the dress.
Have you ever tried Rent the Runway?
And if you use my referral link you get a $20 credit on your first rental!  (So do I...hehe).
Full Disclosure: I did not receive anything in return for this post.  I am just a loyal customer of Rent the Runway.  However, I do receive credits towards my next rental if you sign up and make a rental through my referral link here.

On a Budget: Sparkly New Year's Eve

I promise this will be my last post about shiny, sparkly things that I can afford....for at least a week.  I go to a pretty casual party for New Year's Eve, so I decided to do dressed down fabulous.  What says fab casual like a sequin t-shirt.  The obvious theme of this post is sequins, but it's also about defeat.
On a Budget: New Year's Eve

J. Crew...you beat me.  I did not want to pay $128 for that polka dot sequin top.  I didn't want to pay $80 when you put it on sale and I didn't even want to pay $56 when you took and additional 30% off sale items.  I thought I could find a cheaper version of your, but I was wrong.  I am sorry J. Crew, I just assumed that since cheap versions of everything you make flood the market within a few weeks.  (i.e. the Blogger Bubble Crusade of 2012).  So now, I am left to try and find an inly slightly cheaper version that isn't even polka dot for New Year's Eve.
