Weekend Update: Sick, Lifetime and a Wreath Tutorial

Dress: Simply Be (via Gwynnie Bee) | Belt: Old Navy (worn here) |
Ankle boots: Marshall's (similar here) | Necklace: gift (similar here) |
Bracelets: Sira & Mara, Michael Kors, Bauble Bar (similar here & here)

I had big plans for this floral frock.  I borrowed this tunic from Gwynnie Bee and put on the perfect pair of black ankle boots that I had searched for for weeks.  And then disaster struck.  I spent most of this weekend sick on the couch watching Lifetime movies.  Shannen Doherty found her missing husband and took down a computer company falsifying its profits and some blonde lady's husband went missing and there was something with a voodoo cult.  I don't know.  I took a  lot of Nyquil.  Obviously, these photos were taken before I contracted the plague.
I removed myself from the couch long enough to get Mexican food Saturday night and then to watch the Superbowl at my parents' house last night (and stuff myself with tacos each time).  My sickness did not come with nausea or lack of appetite.
This might be the Nyquil talking, but I am also going to share a little crafty tutorial with you all that I managed to concoct while on the couch.

I purchased everything seen here from Michael's.
1. I wrapped a straw wreath in burlap garland.  Yeah, it's a real thing...you can find it over by the wreaths and fake flowers.
2.  On top of the burlap garland, I wrapped a portion of the wreath in lace ribbon.
3. I secured the garland and lace ribbon to the wreath with straight pins.
4. Lastly I hot glued little Valentine do-dads to the wreath.  I used some heart ornaments and rhinestones.  I secured a looop of heart printed ribbon to the top of the wreath with more straight pins in order to hang it on the door.

All the materials cost me about $20, but if I have enough stuff to cover 2 more wreaths if I want.

Look What I Got: The One with the Sequin Dress

Sequin Tunic: Simply Be via Gwynnie Bee | Tights: Joe Fresh (worn here) | Shoes: Target
Bracelets: ?? and Michael Kors (similar here & here) | Ring Stella & Dot (similar here)

I put this dress in my Gwynnie Bee virtual closet after seeing it on Katie of Hems for Her.  Katie not only inspired me to try out this dress, but inspired the name of this post.  She said (via Twitter because we've only virtually hung out so far) "I wanted to wear it nonstop like that wedding dress episode of Friends!"  Thus, this post is "The One with the Sequin Dress."  (It's also "The One with the Bad White Balance" as the Scot and I try to learn about photography.)
And, just for Look What I Got" I paired this sparkly tunic with some $7 flats from Target.  Yes, I already have a pair of black ballet flats, but for $7 I figured I needed another pair.  Seriously, check out the Target shoe clearance section.  I also got a leopard pair for $7.

I will wear sequins in a box
I will wear them with a fox
I will wear sequins in a boat.
I will wear them with a goat.

Ok, I may have gone too far.  The bottom line here is that I took sequins into the daylight and right into the office with this outfit.

Weekend Update: Thriftin' Around Town

(A planner, Gap gift card, ad space and more!)
Dress: Simply Be via Gwynnie Bee | Tights: Anthropologie (worn here, similar here) |
Boots: Macy's (worn here, similar here) | Hat: Ebay (worn here, similar here) |
Bracelets: Groopdealz, F21 & Julep (worn here and here, similar here, here, here and here) |
Ring: vintage | Earrings: Bauble Bar

This weekend I decided I wanted to do a little thrift store shopping...And this is the exact conversation that commenced between Elena and me.

In full disclosure, the outfit pictured is not what I wore because I did not do a photo shoot of my unwashed  appearance.  However, I did wear that hat.  Even though I didn't have enough energy to shower, I had more than enough to score some great finds.

I'm only giving a sneak peek at the clothing items because they will be making an appearance on the blog soon.
Vintage dress: $8, Striped Forever 21 shirt: $3.50, Patterned top: $3.50

Brigadoon print: $35.  I normally don't like to pay more than $10 for an item at Goodwill, but I could not turn down this print.  The Scot and I attended a wedding at the Brigadoon last year, so it has some meaning to me.  I am sure I overpaid, but I considered it a donation to Goodwill...haha.

Presidential pitcher: $3.99.  Seriously, how could I turn this down?  (I also did a little grocery shopping, as is evidenced by the stack of cans behind the glorious pitcher).

Vintage ring: $16.  Although I do love the Presidential pitcher.  This vintage ring might be my favorite find of the day.

And then of course I tortured the dog a little bit:

Don't even try and tell me you don't put your shower cap on our dog.

Look What I Got: Snow and Some More Gwynnie Bee

It snowed a few weeks ago here in New Jersey.  So, I did what any good blogger would do and froze my booty off taking pictures in it.
Printed Sheath Dress: Simply Be | Leggings: Target |
Necklace: BaubleBar (similar here) | Boots: Macy's (worn here, similar here) |
Bracelets: Groopdealz, F21 and BaubleBar (worn here, similar here and here) |
Watch: Michael Kors (present from the Scot) | Ring: BaubleBar (worn here)

However, it was to show off one of my latest items from Gwynnie Bee.  (If you are not familiar with Gwynnie Bee, check out this post.)  After receiving this dress in the mail from Gywnnie Bee and obsessing over loving it, I decided to actually purchase it from Simply Be.  And I was pleasantly surprised.  It was on sale for $34 (down from $58) AND I had a coupon code to save 40% off (thanks to a Tweet from Katie).  So, I wound up paying a little over $20 for this dress!  That's like Forever 21 pricing!  Wait, this outfit gets better.  That necklace was FREE (the best price) from BaubleBar.  In December BaubleBar was running a promotion where you could pick a free piece of jewelry from their "Gift Suite" when you spent $40.  I picked up some Christmas gifts for friends and family....and for me.  The Michael Kors watch was free for me, but only because the Scot gave it to me as a gift.  I am pretty sure he didn't get it for free.  And if he did, I guess I am wearing some hot jewelry.

And now it's time to see your deals and steals!!

Look What I Got: Gwynnie Bee

So it's no secret that I love getting new clothes.  However, my bank account does not like my incessant quest for pretty things.  And I found a solution: Gwynnie Bee.  (It's where I got this little tunic).
Oh good...a better camera means you can now see all the wrinkles in my clothes.  Damnit, now I have to learn to iron.
Gwynnie Bee is like a clothing rental service for women sizes 10 and up.  (Think rent-a-swag from Parks and Rec).  Sidebar: awhile ago I had to admit to myself that I am an intense pear shape.  I have some junk in the truck.  Don't get me wrong...it's some pretty good junk.  But, I am a much smaller size on top than I am on the bottom.  I stopped caring about the number on the tag on my jeans quite some time ago.  Because it's different in every store.  (Old Navy...I am looking at you....I am 2 sizes larger in your jeans than any other store.)  Typically, ordering clothes online is not an option for me.  If it fits in the waist, it doesn't fit in the hips...sometimes there's some muffin top action...just so many clothing problems.  I don't know if I fit into the "plus size" category.  I think I just fit into my own "Tara size" category.  Gwynnie Bee lets me try out different retailers and their sizing with no commitment.
Gwynnie Bee’s motto is “Clothing Without Commitment.”  You sign up and add clothing items from Gwynnie Bee’s collection to your virtual closet. Gwynnie Bee ships pieces to you and when you return them (postage already paid) they’ll send more your way. You'll have a constantly rotating wardrobe of flattering pieces.  Gwynnie Bee is stocked with quality brands like Talbots, Michael Kors, J. Jill, Kiyonna, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, DKNY, and more. And they are constantly updating!
Every single piece is shipped wrapped carefully in tissue and with two hang tags – one with laundering instructions and the other with the piece’s name and a feedback form.  Each piece looks new and if stuff was worn before, I couldn't tell.  AND you don't have to wash any thing before you send it back.  I hate doing laundry.

Full disclosure: I only signed up because the first month was free.  Through the end of the month, new subscribers get a 30 day free trial.  However, I am seriously considering signing up and paying for a month.  Ok, wait, I do have a favor to ask of my readers.  If you would like to test out Gwynnie Bee, leave your email in the comments (or send me an email) and I can send you a referral (leave it in the format of email[at]gmail[dot]com to protect against spammers).  I get a free month for every referral.  (Full disclosure: I am in no way associated with Gywnnie Bee and was not compensated in any way for this post.   I heard about Gwynnie Bee through Hems for Her.)
