July Ipsy Bag Review

The theme of this month's bag, for me, seemed to be illiteracy.  Two of the five products I received were items that I had noted in various reviews and my beauty profile that I did not want.  I hope that Ipsy steps it up for my next bag.

The Balm Meet Matt(e) Trimony Eyeshadow in Matt Kumar (0.5 g, ~ $5): No matter how many bad reviews I leave for these crap-tastic eyeshadows, Ipsy keeps sending them to me.  This is probably the worst one.  Yeah...matte burgundy looks super duper on a pale person.  I look like the Bride of Frankenstein.

Eva NYC Get Glossed Hair Serum (0.4 mL, ~$5): I felt like this product was just "meh."  It made my hair a little bit glossier and frizz-free.  However, I think I have 300 other products that work just as well.

Too Faced Hangover Primer (0.16 oz, ~ $5).  Although this is a high-quality product, I am really disappointed that I got it.  I specifically noted on my beauty profile that I did not want any more face primers.  I already have a huge stockpile.

Vasanti Cosmetics Eyeshadow Brush ($18): I go through makeup brushes fairly quickly.  Get ready for some good ol' fashioned oversharing.  I have greasy eyelids, so I tend to wash my eyeshadow brushes at least one per week.  Therefore, as you can guess, they wear out a little bit quicker than I would like.  So, I always like to have a stockpile of brushes.  I really like the shape of this brush and the softness of the bristles.  It's perfect for lid or crease application of shadow, but I think I am going to use this as a concealer brush.

Skyn Iceland Daily Cooling Lotion (15 mL, ~$10):  Ipsy has made me a total Skyn Iceland addict.  I love their undereye gels.  I actually travel with these and pop them on during my cab ride to the hotel if I need to be beautiful and active immediately after exiting the plane.  I've also started using their cleansing cloths.  They are really gentle and great for blemish-prone and sensitive skin.  So, I was obviously excited to try this lotion.  And it's getting added to my travel bag.  It's like having a little mini-facial.  The lotion is cooling, without the burning sensation of some grocery store brands (I'm looking at your, Garnier).

I was actually really bummed out by this bag.  I felt like most of the products did not match my beauty profile at all and completely ignored all the reviews I've placed on the site (i.e. telling them 5 or 6 times that I hate The Balm eye shadows).

All Eyes on You Ipsy Glam Bag Review

The Balm Mr. Write Now Eyeliner (full size, $17): I have so far been relatively unimpressed with The Balm's eye products.  I do not like their eye shadows and now I can add their eye liners to the list of products that disappointed me. The color is TERRIBLE.  Seriously, a copper eyeliner?  It just looks weird.  And it's too soft, making it a little messy to put on.

Mitchell & Peach English Leaf Body Cream (1.01 oz, ~$12.50).  I really love this hand cream.  The scent is nice and subtle and it's super moisturizing without being greasy.

Hikari Cream Pigment Eyeshadow (full size, $13).  Another loser in the eye makeup department.  I was mostly disappointed with the packaging.  I could barely get a decent shadow brush into the pot. I was also not a fan because it was a little too shiny and metallic for my tastes.

Peek Beauty Eyebrow Powder (0.11 oz., ~$11).  I love this brow powder.  It's the perfect little size for travel and the perfect color for my light coloring.

Purlisse Blue Lotus Eye Serum (0.24 oz., ~$30). I am a sucker for eye creams.  I am always trying to turn back the clock in my eye area.  However, with eye creams, it takes a little while to see any results.  So, the jury is still out on this one.

This was actually my highest value Glam Bag at $83.50!  The eye serum really sent this one over the edge.  why is eye goo so expensive?!

November Ipsy Glam Bag Review

Jelly Pong Pong Liquid Gossamer (0.27 oz  ~$23): This is probably one of the best highlighters out there.  Unlike most highlighters, it has a peachy undertone, so it's great for paler skin.

Figs & Rouge Mattifying Emulsion (0.5 oz ~$18): This was my favorite product in this month's bag. It's a mattifying pore refiner.  I love wearing it under my makeup like a primer.

SmashBox Full Exposure Mascara (3 mL ~ $10): This is one of my favorite mascaras ever.  However, I already have like 2 or 3 travel sizes.  I only have 2 eyes and there just aren't enough days in the week.

Crown Oval Concealer Brush ($7.45): This has quickly become one of my go-to make up brushes.  It's super soft and perfect for applying undereye concealer.

treStiQue Mini Matt Lip Crayon ( ~ $14) (in Chile Red):  This was my least favorite item this month.  The color was ok, but it was super drying and the crayon is so thin it's difficult to apply in one swoop.  You wind up having to color your lips in like a coloring book.

This was actually my highest value Glam Bag at $75.45!  What really drove this one up was the full size highlighter.  I almost wonder if that was put in there by mistake...haha!

October Ipsy Glam Bag

Royal & Langnickel Moda Standard Eye Shadow Brush ($4):I can always use more makeup brushes.  And I love love love this one.  not only is it super soft and adorably bright pink, but it's 100% vegan!  It's actually pretty difficult to find good quality brushes that aren't made from animal hair.

The Balm Long-lasting Liquid Lipstick (in Committed) (0.04 oz ~$4.25): I absolutely love this "lipstick."  It applies and moisturizes like a gloss, but has the color and staying power of a lipstick.  And the color is a really nice work-appropriate fall color.

BWC Frangrance Free Lotion (2 fl. oz. ~ $2): I love that Beauty without Cruelty's (BWC) are 100% vegan!  The best part about this lotion is that you can add your favorite essential oil to it and customize the fragrance.

Nourish Organic Argan Face Serum (0.5 oz. ~ $17): I love this moisturizer.  It's hydrating enough to wear as a night cream, but also is perfect for under makeup all day.

It Cosmetics Hello Lashes Mascara (0.16 oz. ~ $12):  I am a bad blogger, because I didn't take a picture of hte best part of this mascara, the brush!  The brush has a little ball on the end that helps to really amp up the edges of your lashes.

This was actually my lowest valued Glam Bag at $39.25!  After last month's bag, I feel like the value is starting to slip.  However, I do have to say I loved the products a lot more than last month.

September Ipsy Glam Bag Review

NYX Eye Shadow Trio (0.03 oz ~ $12): Again, Ipsy....stop sending me neutral palettes.  I only have 2 eyelids.  And this was possibly the worst one they've ever sent.  It had absolutely no pigmentation and came off in minutes.

Eau Thermale Avene Soothing Moisture Mask (0.16 oz ~$5):  I do actually like this mask.  It's not too thick or greasy and my skin felt nice and hydrated in the morning.

J. Cat Slide On Eye Pencil (Full size, $2.50): This did not "slide" on as the name suggests.  It was super dry and caused too much tugging on the eye lid to apply.  That is not good for my old lady eyes.

City Color Cosmetics Be Bold Mascara (full size, $6): This mascara was super clumpy.  I don't know if it's the applicator or the formula.

Trust Fund Nail Polish in Elegantly Wasted (Full size, $15): I love this color.  I usually don't like when Ipsy sends me nail polish, but I think this color will be gracing my piggies pretty soon.

This was actually my lowest valued (and least favorite Glam Bag) at $40.50!

August Ipsy Glam Bag Review

LA Fresh Good Night Night Cream (0,5 oz ~ $12): I am actually an avid user of night creams.  I like the way this one felt: not too heavy and not greasy.  My only problem was the smell.  The scent was so over powering I had to wipe it off my face.

Albertini In Shower Hydrator (1 oz ~$2):  I've been seeing these in shower moisturizers every where.  And I've been thinking it sounds like a stupid idea.  And it is.  All this did was add an extra step to my shower routine.  About 10 minutes after getting out of the shower and drying off, my skin felt dry.

noyah Natural Lipstick (0.04 oz ~ $15):  I really loved the color (desert rose), a nice dusty rose color.  It's perfect for all skin tones and is perfect for work or a casual evening.

Doll Hydra Gel Cream Blush (full size = $16): This stuff was basically just pink grease.

Lord & Berry Lip liner (0.03 oz ~ $9): I was actually really excited to try this product because I am in the market for a lip liner.  This color (nude) was a little too brown for my skin tone and any lip products I actually use.  So, this was a no go for me.

Not a bad haul at $54!

July Ipsy Glam Bag Review

Octavio Molina Hair La Playa Salt Spray (2oz ~ $7.25): I am never really sure how to use sea salt sprays.  I don't really ever feel like they do anything.  Am I using them wrong?  Most likely.  This stuff just kind of made my hair feel sticky and dirty.

Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Bronzer (0.11 oz ~$10): You might think that someone with my skin tone has no need for bronzer.  You would be wrong my friend.  I use it to highlight on the bridge of my nose and under my chin very sparingly.  I like the Tarte formula because it has a little sparkle and stays on all day long.

Aurora Gel Effects nail Polish (full size = $12): Who do I need to speak to about not sending me any more nail polishes?

Vasanti Brighten Up Cleanser (20 g = $10): I really liked this exfoliator.  It's nice and gentle and made my skin feel soft.  So, to sum up my review...it cleaned my face good.

Be a Bombshell Lip Balm (full size = $14): I really liked this lip balm...until I saw the price.  How dare you Be a Bombshell!  $14 for chapstick?!  You should be ashamed of yourself.

Not a bad haul at $53.25! (Although maybe more like $43, because there is no way in hell that lip balm is worth $14).

June Ipsy Glam Bag Review

treStique Eyeshadow Crayon (0.02oz ~ $13): treStque is marketed as easy to use cosmetics.  However, I have to say the form of this pencil is really difficult to use as a shadow.  I got a darker color, Kona Coffee, and was hoping to use it in the eyelid crease.  However, the pencil is so thin that you're basically drawing on a line that you hope you can smudge enough with your finger to create the illusion of an eye shadow.

 Lavanila Laboratories Body Butter (0.85 oz ~$3):  This stuff was just really nice, hydrating, pleasant smelling lotion.  Perfect size for my purse...no complaints.

Smashbox Photofinish Primer (0,25 oz ~ $9): Do I even have to tell you that this is the best primer out there?  No, I shouldn't.  Because it is.

J. Cat Lipitude Hydrating Lip Stain (full size ~$6): I believe it is false advertising to call this "hydrating."  I felt like I was rubbing liquid sandpaper on my lips.

Brow Power Universal Eyebrow Pencil (full size ~ $24):  This might be my favorite product ever from my Ipsy bag. It is hands down the best eyebrow pencil I have ever used.  It's thin and oval shaped, making it easy to fill in think and thin brows.  The color also changed depending on how hard you press, making it even more versatile.

May Ipsy Review

Urban Decay Glide on Lip Pencil (0.8 g ~ $13): How can you not love an Urban Decay lip liner?  It goes on super smooth and prevents lipstick feathering.  I also love that it's colorless, so that I don't have have more than one!

 Bella Pierre Mineral Gel Eyeliner (full size, $15):  This liner went on smooth, was super pigmented, and stayed on.  However, I felt like you needed to be an expert to put it on.  There was absolutely not "play time" with the liner.  If you screw up....you have use makeup remover on the whole eye and start over.

Nux Face Cleansing and Makeup Removing Gel (15 mL ~ $12): I wear black eyeliner and black mascara everyday.  Therefore, I often wake up with some of it still on my face.  With this removing gel, that didn't happen!

Bare Republic Naturals Mineral Face Sunscreen (0.5 oz ~$4):  I am in desperate need of a good facial sunscreen.  This fit the bill. Not greasy, waterproof....and kind of smelled like a summery coconut drink.

Luxie Beauty Blending Brush ($12):  I can always use another makeup brush!

Not a bad haul at $56.  And I LOVE the lip liner, sunscreen, and makeup removing gel. I won't have too many eDivv trades to make this month!

April Ipsy Review

Redken Windblown 05 Dry Finishing Spray (1.9 oz ~ $6): This stuff is supposed to give you a windblown look without the crunchy look.  I am not in love with the formula.  I really don't feel like it does anything.  It's not a hair spray and I am not quite sure what it's supposed to be.

JulieG Nail Polish (full size, $4): This was pretty much the worst.  The color was nice, but it went on clumpy.

Mullein and Sparrow Lip and Cheek Tint (full size, $10): This stuff is really moisturizing, but doesn't have much of a tint.  I think it's a better balm than a cheek tint.

Mica Beauty Eye Primer (4g ~$22):  Ok, I said that nail polish was the worst....this stuff was actually the worst.  It's so dry that it hurts to try and swipe it across your eye lids.

Nude Dude Eye Shadow (single ~$3):  The Balm makes some good (an inexpensive) eye products.  This shadow goes on nice and smooth and has a great pigment.  And the Nude Dude palette has more shades than most palettes and is only $36!

Not a bad haul at $45.  Sadly, I wasn't super in love with any of the products.  Hopefully, I'll get some stuff I want from some eDivv trades!

March Ipsy Glam Bag Review

Pixi by Petra Mineral Duo (0.03 oz. ~$7.50):  I think Pixi is a great brand for the price.  These eye shadows are very pigmented and go on smooth.  I don't think they are as long lasting as some higher end brands though.

NYX Butter Lipstick (Full size, $6):  This is the most moisturizing lipstick I have ever used.  it goes on so smooth!  Unfortunately, the color was not for me.

Acure Day Cream (1 oz ~ $10): I really liked this cream.  It has a very slight, pleasant smell and kept my skin hydrated under all of my makeup.

Chella Ivory Lace Highlighter (Full size, $18): This is supposed to be a Swiss Army knife-like tool, being able to be used for highlighting, for the waterline, to cover dark under eye circles, and to disguise blemishes.  I straight up thought this was a Wet and Wild white eyeliner from the 90's.  No way I would have put this under my eyes.  The under eye skin is super sensitive and tears easily, causing wrinkles.  This stuff was NOT smooth to apply. Also, it's basically a white glitter.  it did not blend with my skin AT ALL.

Skyn Iceland Eye Gels (2 sets ~ $7.50): These are my new favorite beauty secret!  They hydrate under my eyes and really eliminate puffiness and fine lines.  They feel so luxurious too!  Like a little personal spa.  I used these the night before my wedding and the makeup artist commented on how good my undereyes looked.

This might be the best deal of an Ipsy bag I've ever gotten!  $69!

February Ipsy Bag Review

Eva NYC Up All Night Volumizing Spray (1 oz. ~$3.00):  I'm not super in love with this stuff.  It made my hair a little stiff and smelled weird.

City Color Creamy Lip Stain (Full size, $5):  I love this lip stain.  It's really creamy and moisturizing.  And the color (Flirtini) is great!  It's going to be such an awesome spring color.

Model Co. Blush (Full size, $22): I have waaaay more blush than one person should have.  So, I left this in the package and listed it on Edivv to swap.  Seriously 

Mitchell & Peach Fine Radiance Face Oil (10 mL ~ $15): I;m actually not really sure how to use face oil.  I might need a tutorial.  I don't know about this whole "essential oil" thing.

Emite Makeup Eyelash Curler ($24): I actually already own two of these....so off to Edivv this goes too!

This might be the best deal of an Ipsy bag I've ever gotten!  $69!

January Ipsy Bag Review

Malin & Goetz Lip Balm (0.22 oz. ~$12.00):  This lip balm actually tastes like a mojito...oh wait, it's mojito flavored....good job.

Hikari Cosmetics Eye Liner (0.2 g, $13): I don't use pencil liners, so I am no help here.

Pacifica Natural Mineral Coconut Eye Shadow (0.08 oz, $4): This eye shadow was so super soft and luxurious feeling.  However, it lasted about 10 minutes, even with primer.

ProBelle Nail Polish (0.5 oz., $6): I did not like this nail polish at all.  It's really streaky and required 4 coats just to look normal.

Elizabeth Mott All Over Brush ($10): This brush is so soft.  I absolutely love it.

Benefit Posie Balm (0.5 g, $8):  I got this deluxe sample with some Ipsy Points I racked up.  This is my new favorite lip balm.  It's really moisturizing and provides the best pink color.  It's also a great primer for lipstick.

Benefit Fake Up (0.5 g, $8):And I was greedy and got another deluxe sample with my Ipsy points.  I actually use this concealer everyday.  I gogt this sample to take traveling.  It is the absolute best. You can see my review of it here.

This month's bag was a great value at $45 worth of product (all full sized, without the Ipsy point add ons).  However, I actually only liked the brush.  So, maybe not such a great deal for me.

November and December Ipsy Bag Reviews

So, if the fact that the title informs you that this post is about my November and December Ipsy bags didn't inform you of how behind I am with posting about my subscription boxes....the Christmas ornaments in the photos will.  I thought I was making the photos fun and more interesting.  Because my busy schedule didn't let me test the products until this week, now the photos just look silly.  Thank you snow day!

 

Be a Bombshell Eye Base (0.09 oz. ~$14.00): I'm not exactly sure what this stuff is trying to be.  It's called an eye base and the website says you can use it to build color on it.  However, it seeps into the eye lid crease almost instantly.  So, I feel like you can't wear this stuff as a base.  So, it's just a dark brown, mediocre eye shadow...snore.

Elizabeth Mott You're so Fine Eyeliner (Full size, $18):  I sadly cannot provide you with a helpful review of this product.  I am physically unable to use liquid eyeliner.  I just wind up with skinny black lines all over my lids and no where hear the lash line.  It didn't smell like cat pee or anything weird.  That's as helpful as I can be.

J. Cat Wonder Lip Paint (Full size, $5): I love this stuff.  It's like less expensive Lip Tar!  The color is so pretty...more red than brown as it appears in the picture.

Marc Anthony Argan Oil Hairspray (1.5oz. ~ $1.50): This hair spray really holds well, but still feels light.  I didn't see any difference with the addition of the Argan oil though.

Temptu Highlighter (0.1 oz. ~ $2.75):  I am not a fan of the color of this highlighter.  It's too white and glittery.  It looks like Halloween makeup.

Beauty without Cruelty Facial Cleanser (2 oz. ~$3.00):  I love that this stuff is cruelty free and vegan.  However, that's about the only thing I loved about it.  It's soap free and is supposed to clean your skin with alpha hydroxy acids.  However, I felt like it didn't clean my face at all and just left it oily.

Cailyn Just Mineral Eye Polish (Full size, $15):  I really like this color and the formula is nice and smooth.  It stays on all day without creasing.  However, the applicator is terrible.  I needed to dab it on my eyes and blend with a brush.  This would be better in a little pot.

NYX Butter Lip Balm (Full size, $4): For a lip balm, this has A LOT of pigment, and it was fairly long-lasting.

450 Blow Out Heat Defense Spray (1.7oz. ~ $8): I love this stuff.  It made my hair much straighter and bouncier after a blow dry.  A little warning though: do NOT use too much!  If you do it will turn your hair into a grease ball.

Tarte Lights Camera Lashes Mascara (0.1 oz. ~ $6):  I was a little mad about all the mascara I was getting in my Ipsy boxes.  But, I was not mad at all about this one.  This is my new fav.  It gives a ton of volume without clumping.

I was slightly disappointed in the value of this bag....only $29....and no full sized products.

September AND October Ipsy Bag Reviews

Crown Infinity Shadow/Crease Brush ($7): I am really impressed with this brush.  I normally use Sephora's brushes and it takes a lot for me to deviate from long-time beauty loves.  The bristles are super soft and I love the shape of the smaller brush.  It's perfect for applying shadow in the eyelid crease.  

Pacifica Water-Proof Eye Pencil (full size, $11):  I don't actually use eye pencils any more...and this color looks like it should be worn by a robot whore. 

Cailyn Art Touch Tinted Gloss in Love Affair (full size, $19): I was really really excited to see a great Fall lip color in my bag.  This one did not disappoint.  It has great color and gives just the right amount of shine.  

Mitchell and Peach Luxury Hand Cream (30 ml, $8.50):  I really like this lotion.  And that's about all I an say about it.  It doesn't have much of a scent, and it moisturizes.  So, I guess it operates as a lotion.

Nourish Organic Moisturizing Cream Face Cleanser (1 oz., ~$2.30): I love having these little samples to use when I go on trips.  However, I've tried a few items from this line and I've never been bowled over.  I've pretty much just thought everything was...meh.

September's bag was a GREAT value!  I technically got 3 full sized products if you count the brush.  Bag Total: About $47!

Ayres Patagonia Body Butter (1 oz. ~$4.00):  This stuff smells like medicine.  I can't even get past the smell enough to tell you anything else about it.

Ecru New York Acacia Beauty Balm for Hair (1 oz., $12):  Apparently, if we add BB to products it makes them better?  My hair is sort of greasy any way, so I think I will be passing on it.  It sounds like it just weighs down  your hair.

Jessie's Girl Baked Eye Shadow (0.7 oz., $4): I don't even know the words to describe this color.  It's metallic white mixed with brown and it's really hard to get an even color.  I haven't used an eye shadow that wasn't in the Naked palette for about a year. 

Skyn Iceland Glacial Cleansing Cloths (2oz. ~ $3): I didn't actually try these because I like to save items like this for traveling.

Starlooks Lip Gloss (0.3 oz. ~ $6):  This is my new favorite lip gloss.  It's the perfect size for my purse and is a great everyday color.  I don't have to reapply that much and it's moisturizing without being sticky.

I was slightly disappointed in the value of this bag....only $29....and no full sized products.

August Ipsy Glam Bag Review

Klorane Dry Shampoo (1.6 oz. ~$6): I love dry shampoo...because I am a gross person that sometimes finds showering on the weekend a chore.  This product made my hair smell good and gave it nice body, without making it look like I am going grey (like some dry shampoos tend to do).
Dr. Brandt Pores No More Primer (0.25 oz. ~$10): Ipsy refers to this as a "cult favorite."  It is not a favorite of mine.  It smells like medicine and I couldn't even tell you if it actually reduces the appearance of pores because I couldn't leave it on for more than a few seconds.  It burned!
Urban Decay Perversion Mascara (0.1 fl. oz. ~$5): BEST.MASCARA.EVER.  The End.  I am a grocery store mascara brand lover.  You can never pry my Maybelline out of my hand.  Until now.  My lashes have never looked longer, blacker or plumper.  
J. Cat Flying Solo Eyeshadow (full size, $2.99):  I'm not in love with this shadow.  it's not as long-lasting as higher end shadows.  The shade actually looks like bronzer, not eye shadow.  And the packaging is weird.  it has a useless little mirror inside.  Who needs a mirror that small?  Great.  I can look at one zit.
Jersey Shore Sun Mongongo Lip Conditioner (full size, $5): I like that Jersey Shore Sun makes all organic, cruelty free products...and even has some vegan products.  However, this stuff is orange flavored chap stick.  Nothing special.
This month the Glam Bag had a value of almost $30.  Not the greatest value yet and I feel like the quality of product was really piss poor with this bag.  At least I got a nice mascara and some dry shampoo.

In the Caboodle: July Ipsy Bag

Pixi Beauty Tinted Brilliance Balm (1.8g, ~$7): I'm on the fence about this one.  It's super moisturizing and smells good.  However, it did not have enough tint to make me use this instead of regular chapstick.

Clear Clinic Clear Spot Treatment (2 mL, ~$9): This is marketed as "an on-the-go clear spot treatment specially formulated with menthol, glycolic and salicylic acids."  It's definitely sized for easy travel; however, I am pretty sure this is just rubbing alcohol.  I tried it on some blemishes and didn't really see any results. 

Bare Minerals 5 in 1 BB Cream Shadow (0.01g, ~$6): This shadow is supposed to be long-wearing and is supposed to smooth fine lines.  I was unable to try this out for a day because essentially this shade (Barely Nude) is the same color as my skin.  However, when swiped on my hand it was so silky smooth and didn't rest into any creases.  I might try it out in another shade, but at $18 for the full-size, it's a little pricey.

Models Own Nail Polish ($5): This crap was the color and consistency of cheap strawberry jelly.  This may be the absolute worst nail polish ever.  I am not even providing you a link to purchase it because I don't want you to even be tempted.

PurLisse SPF 30 Moisturizer (0.5 oz, ~$16): I am a huge PurLisse fan.  Their products claim to mesh natural wholeistic ingredients with more modern technology.  I am not too sure what this means.  Maybe I am putting less horrible genetically engineered monster blood on my face?  Whatever they do, it works.  Their moisturizers are the best.  However, they are a hefty $55.  So, I am super happy to get this deluxe sized sample.  And even happier that it has SPF 30.  It's pretty much sunblock that feels like lightweight expensive moisturizer.
