Mindy Kaling is pretty much my fashion and life icon.  Every episode of The Mindy Project gives me some inspiration for a new outfit.  I knew I wanted to emulate this outfit.  When I saw it on the show, I thought the earrings looks a little Baublebar-esque.  And my fashion intuition was spot on, because The Mindy Project's costume designer teamed up with Baublebar for a line.   I pretty much wanted every thing from the line.  However, I settled for my sparkly studs.  I had to tone down Mindy's outfit a bit for work.  I am not lucky enough to work in an OB/GYN office that also doubles as a J. Crew catalog shoot.  At least I was able to exactly duplicate her earrings.

I scored the deal of all deals over 4th of July weekend.  I got Kate Spade Keds for $20...brand new, not at a thrift store...at Bloomingdale's.  I spotted these spotted beauties on the clearance rack.  Even at the clearance price of $50 I thought they were a steal.  But, the deal got sweeter.  All clearance shoes were an extra 50%.  And then it got even sweeter.  I had just opened up a Bloomie's credit card in order to get some wedding odds and ends, and I saved an extra 15% with that.  And I got triple Bloomingdale's Loyalist Points to boot!  And as an extra bonus my mom lost her mind when I told her because she recently and reluctantly broke down and paid $50 for regular Keds.  She then went on a rant about how Keds used to cost a dollar or something and she'd walk 5 miles in the snow uphill to get them at KMart.  Ah, the good ole days.

Instagram Shopping...My Newest Addiction

Obviously, because I have enough clothing to justify having and entire blog about, I needed a new way to shop.  And, obviously, I am being sarcastic.  I have found a new way to get my bank account in trouble.  And that is Instagram.

Did you freakin' know that people have Instagram shops?!?!  So, now that beautiful time wasting app is now a money sucking app too.  Fantastic.  If you follow my personal Instagram account, you know I am a crazy cat lady at heart, so it seemed pretty logical that I purchase this vintage cat skirt from @threelittlebirdvintage.  It reminded me of a 1950's poodle skirt, but with a cat.
I should probably give you a little info on how the whole thing works.  First, find shops by searching some hashtags.  #shopmycloset and #clothesforsale are pretty popular.  Once you find an item you like, check the shop's policies on how to claim.  The most common way to to comment "SOLD" and provide your Paypal email.  If you don't feel comfortable leaving your Paypal email in the comment, you can direct message the seller.  Then, you should receive a Paypal invoice.  You pay it and your items arrive a few days later!
One warning, be weary of shops that only accept concealed cash or ask you to send Paypal money via the friends and family track.  It's a great way to get scammed.  Of course, with every new modern convenience, comes a new way to have money stolen.  With concealed cash and friends and family payments, you have no way to prove you paid for goods.  At least with an invoice, if you never receive your items, you can open a dispute through Paypal.  As a rule of thumb I ALWAYS ask for a Paypal invoice.  There are plenty of honest shop owners that use concealed cash and friends and family payments, but I am a big old worry wart.
And I have entered the Instagram shop game as well, attempting to empty out my exploding closet.  So, you can shop my closet here (@pennilesscloset).  You can also take advantage of my BUY ONE GET ONE FREE sale! (and I only accept payments through Paypal and provide an invoice).

I'm not an easy person to live with.  I admit it.  I am neurotic, obsessive and get frustrated very easily.  These are personality flaws I try to work on everyday.  In the Scot's own words, "You are much more of a pain in the ass than I ever thought I'd wind up with."  I think he may have said it was worth it afterwards, but I blacked out in anger.  Well, anyway, obviously, one area in which I am neurotic is with my clothing.  Some mornings when I get ready it's like an 80's movie montage of me trying on clothes.  However, sometimes a spark of brilliance hits me.  This outfit was such a a spark.  I literally thought of this outfit in the middle of the night.  I had to get out of bed, find a pen and pad, and write it down.  You can imagine how thrilled the Scot was about this disturbance in the middle of the night.  Just another one of the perks of living with me.

This little elephant bracelet was an anchor for the outfit.  I wanted an outfit that would allow this cute little guy to shine, but still be interesting enough for the blog.  If you love this cute little beaded dude, you can get one super cheap because Transcendence Designs is having a sale!

Snow Day Fun with Jolly Chic

Vest: c/o Jolly Chic (similar) | Gingham Shirt: J. Crew Factory (worn, similar) |
Necklace: StyleLately (worn, similar) | Shoes: Gap (via Poshmark) (similar) |
Bracelets: c/o Yuni Kelly (exact) & Sira Mara (exact)

Maybe this title is a bit of a lie.  I am in no way having any fun with our snow days here in New Jersey.
In the last week I have cleaned about 2 feet of snow off my car.  Just this morning after cleaning 8 inches of snow off my car I discovered a nice little surprise...an inch of ice!  Woot!  And, the fun didn't stop there.  I also discovered what frost nip is. (look it up, you've probably had it before).  When my hands started to hurt and then went numb, I decided it was time to tap out and let the Scot finish the job.  And I frantically rain inside and Googled, "painful numb hands" and "can I lose a finger from shoveling out my car?"  I also learned that just because gloves are cute and stripey, does not mean they are good gloves.

I don't know how I never wore this vest and this gingham shirt together before.  These two pieces have been right next to each other....hanging out....not telling me how good they look together.  I feel like I have lost precious time with this pairing.  I promise to make up for it though.

Weekend Update: Birthday Freebies and Discounts (and a giveaway!)

If you like my bracelet in this post you can enter to win one here (or another bauble of your choice)

Shirt: J. Crew (similar, worn) | Skirt: Forever 21 (similar) | Stone Fan Necklace: J. Crew Factory
Silk Knot Bracelet: Brighthouse Baubles (worn) | Watch: Michael Kors (similar)
Bag: Kate Spade | Shoes: J. Crew via Plato's Closet (worn, similar) | Sunnies: c/o Firmoo

This weekend I journeyed around collecting my birthday discounts and freebies.  (In a skirt that was maybe a little too short)  It's a magical time of year.
I started off the morning with my free birthday drink from Starbucks.  All you need to get yours is to sign up for a Starbucks card.  And my favorite birthday perk...15% off at Anthropologie.  I snagged some pretty nice goodies off the sale rack (not that one...that's still full price)

The Sephora birthday freebie never disappoints.  This year it was a package from Benefit featuring mascara and a highlighter.
I used my $10 from Victoria's Secret to get a new primer ($8 out of pocket).  I used my $20 birthday credit from Vera Bradley to get a bangle ($18 out of pocket).  I put my $10 DSW birthday reward towards some bird print platforms ($20 out of pocket).  And I used my $15 birthday reward from Banana Republic for some goodies as well (nothing specific pictured).  I maybe did a little more shopping than just with my bday discounts...hehe.

And now I'd like to introduce you to one of my fabulous sponsors....who also has a giveaway for you!

Hey I'm Ashley from Wannabe green, I'm not your typical Stay at Home Mom that strives to be Betty Crocker or Martha Stewart.  I already know how to cook and crafts have always been my thing.  I'd rather be a housewife with a rock'in bod, cute kids, hot husband, with tons of shoes and saving the planet one recycled can at a time
So that's what I write about Healthy Snacks, "Green" Alternatives, and Daily Life in my crazy little world.
