"So what is that?" asked the Scot when I donned my newly acquire poncho from Dresslink.  When I explained to him what it was, he then had a follow up question: "Like a rain coat?"  Sometimes explaining fashion to my husband is difficult.  (almost as difficult as eating pizza in a poncho).

The Luxor in Las Vegas is one of the most ridiculous places I've ever been.  There's a pyramid and a sphinx and and some kind of obelisk (not pictured)...and a lovely scenic view of the highway (also not pictured).  And you don't even have to take your life in your own hands to go see it.  On top of that, Las Vegas's sphinx even has it's nose.  Totally better than Egypt!  Does sarcasm come across here?  Blogger really needs a sarcasm widget.

And now I am going to introduce you to a lady that probably appreciates the real pyramids of Egypt and the real nose-less sphinx...and might not even offend an entire country today.  Here's a much classier and smarter lady than me, Betsy of Musings of a Museum Fanatic.  (She also has a fab giveaway for some Target cash and a statement necklace that rivals mine).

Hello everyone!  I'm Betsy from Musings of a Museum Fanatic.  As you can tell from my name I love museums!  I love visiting them, reading about them, talking about them; I love them so much I work in one.  Even though I love museums so much, this is definitely not a one note blog.  I'm a huge fan of my home city, Chicago, and I love to share anything from food to sights, related to one of my favorite places.  I'm a sometimes successful DIY-er, Pampered Chef loving, sometimes recipe user but always enjoying cooking type gal.

Camoflage, Rhinestones, Dots and a Scarf Giveaway!

Shoes: TOMS (similar) | Scarf: c/o Nimli (similar) | NJ Necklace: Fifth & Mae (exact) |
Bracelets: thirfted, Groopdealz, & Favery (worn here & here; similar here & here)

stripes and camo 4 stripes and camo 3

This is how I am doing one of this year's hottest trends, camouflage....in small doses and with rhinestones.  Camouflage pants are just not for me.  A concerned friend once stopped me from buying pink camouflage pants many years ago.  Although I still mourn the loss of those pants, I know it was the right decision.  There are just some trends that aren't for everyone.
However, I never pattern mix in small doses.  Ok, maybe this outfit has too many patterns in it.  But, maybe because the striped shirt and polka dotted scarf are the same colors, they really only count as one pattern.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
And if you like my scarf...you can't have it...but you can win a similar one from Nimli
Nimli is a curated market place that sells everything from clothing, to makeup to home goods.  You can pretty much find anything on there!  So, enter below with the Rafflecopter widget.

I always see bloggers wearing a dress as a shirt and I could never figure out how they did it.  It looked so effortless and you couldn't see the bulk of the dress under the skirt.  Well, I figured it out....super tight dress.  The mirrored design on this dress is super slimming, but it is quite curve hugging.  Under that conservative black skirt is some non-work appropriate sexiness.
Another blogger mystery to me has been those awesome tassel bracelets.  Where are people getting them?  How are they keeping the tassel so perfectly placed for the perfect Instagram photo?  I found my tassel bracelet over at Sophistifunk for only $12! However, I have yet to master that perfectly placed tassel Instagram shot.
So, now show me your great (and cheap discoveries)!

On a Budget: Patterned Pencil Skirts

My sidebar is going to look bare in about a week.  So, 50% off all ad spots for everyone!  Use code FROZEN50
On a Budget: Patterned Pencil Skirts

It should not come as a surprise that I love pencil skirts.  However, it was a surprise to me to realize I didn't own a single patterned pencil skirt.  I loved the J. Crew Scroll Print Pencil skirt, but $158 is pretty steep, and it's already sold out.  I couldn't find one in a similar pattern or even similar colors, but I did find a myriad of different patterns and colors out there in the world of pencil skirts.  I'm thinking of getting a floral print one.  How awesome would a floral pencil skirt look with a striped top?

Stuff I Wore: Clean Slate

My new camera arrived in the mail a few days ago, a Canon S95.  I am just not ready for a DSLR, but I am going to start perusing used ones on Ebay in the coming months.  So, I am going to overload you with noisy OOTD photos one last time.  I am just going to rip it off like a band aid and show you my remaining outfits in one fell swoop and start the new year off with better photos.  My New Year's resolution (besides volunteering more) is to provide you with better quality photos.  This probably means I'll have to start enlisting the help of The Scot in the mornings to take some outdoor shots.  On second thought, maybe I'll just get a tripod.
This first outfit is composed completely of items I purchased on Black Friday and while Anthro ran their most recent 50% off sale items promotion.  I was really skeptical about the Triad Peasant Blouse, but it's such a great versatile piece.  I thought it looked too short and Little House on the Prairie-esque.  I was very wrong.  I've also worn it out after work with just a pair of jeans.

OOTD 12.13.11 (Polyvore Set

And here are more Anthro items that I got at the 50% off sale.  The Endless Corduroy Skirt is so darn cute.
OOTD 12.15.11 (Polyvore Set)
This casual outfit is a result of my J. Crew outlet outing with my sister.  My sister and I disagree almost completely on fashion.  She's more khakis and polo shirts and I'm more...well, bright pink and rhinestones.  There is really only one thing we agree on, and that is J. Crew.  When we walked into the outlet, my sister said, "I feel like I'm home."
OOTD 12.18.11 (Polyvore Set)
I apparently don't make my bed on Sundays...don't tell my mom.

And I organized this last outfit around my Secret Santa gift from work.  Somehow my secretay knew I would love a sparkly leopard print scarf!
OOTD 12.22.11 (sorry no Polyvore!)

A close-up of my awesome Christmas gift.
