Business Casual Barbie

Pink A-Line and Cold Shoulder-3 Pink A-Line and Cold Shoulder-4 Pink A-Line and Cold Shoulder-5 Pink A-Line and Cold Shoulder-6 Pink A-Line and Cold Shoulder-7

Sometimes I have something to say about an outfit, making this a real fashion blog.  But, then sometimes I stay up past my bedtime watching Cersei Lannister prepare to audition for her dream role of back up dancer in Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation.  So, after editing all of these photos and preparing all the other little flourishes of the post, I was left without the ability to form many words.

So, here it goes.  I went really pink with this outfit...maybe a little too pink.  I look like business casual Barbie.

And yes, 10 pm is past my bedtime.

Summer White

IMG_1289 IMG_1293 IMG_1288 IMG_1300 IMG_1303 IMG_1296
The LWD is the LBD of summer.  Nothing says summer like a crisp white dress.  Of course, many times when you see a nice little summer white dress around the fashion blogging world, it's paired with sky-high nude heels.  Not on this blogger.  Glitter sneakers all the way.  Glitter sneakers are the lazy, clumsy girl's stilettos.

Faux Leather Mini Skirt and a Big White Bow

IMG_0846 IMG_0843 IMG_0852 IMG_0854 IMG_0856

A faux leather mini is a difficult piece of clothing to wear.  You can't wear it when it's warm out because, well, it's faux leather.  But, then you can't wear it when it's too cold out because it's nice not to be frost bitten.  It's a conundrum.  So, I opted to risk hypothermia so that I could be seasonally appropriate with my fabrics.

Brocade Skirt and Dots

holiday skirt 1 holiday skirt 2 holiday skirt 3 holiday skirt 5 holiday skirt 4

I picked up this skirt on my last trip down to Washington DC in one of my favorite shops: Violet Boutique.  I have a little ritual when I travel to our nation's capital.  I get a falafel lunch at Amsterdam Falafel, a beer (or 3) at the Black Squirrel, and then I buy myself something pretty at Violet.  It's really my perfect afternoon, combining all of my great loves in life: fried food, beer, and shopping.  The Scot is usually there too.

That Time I Accidentally Dressed Up Like a Bee

I wasn't trying to dress up like a bumble bee.  Promise.  I was just looking for a neutral top to go with my bright yellow pants.  However, after putting this outfit together, I realize that bees are pretty stylish.  They've got the art down of pairing neutrals with brights.

Review: Marimekko for Banana Republic

I was super duper excited when I learned that Banana Republic was collaborating with Marimekko.  I love their geometric prints and bright colors...and the quality of Banana Republic's collaborations has been fantastic.  I was most excited about the polka dot midi skirt on the far right.

0522_US_HP_MarimekkoSpotlight
However, by the time I got to the nearest Banana Republic after work, almost everything was picked over.  And my coveted skirt was sold out.  I was hesitant to purchase online during the pre-sale (to which I had access by virtue of being a Banana Republic cardholder) because I was unsure of the sizing.  And now I am regretting the decisiont o wait until the collection came out in stores.  Seriously, did people take off of work for this?!

2014-05-22 17.39.15
First, I tried on the Kivet Pleated Dress.  The quality is exactly what you expect from BR.  The fabric is soft and the fit is feminine and flattering.  Perhaps the only reason I did not walk out with this dress is because I was morning the loss of the midi skirt.  The dress fit true to size and for reference I am wearing an 8.  The hips are free, so no issues for curvy ladies.
2014-05-22 17.38.21
Next up, the (some ridiculous long word I refuse to type) Hampton Shorts.  The colors on these shorts are amazing.  Perfect for summer.  The fabric is so soft and comfy.  AND, my favorite part, the shorts are an appropriate length.  No exposed BBC (bottom butt cheek).  Again, pretty true to size and no issues for curvy ladies.  I am wearing a 10 for reference.  I would actually size down if you have narrow hips or skinny legs.
2014-05-22 17.37.38
And last, the shorter version of the skirt I missed out on (sold out online already).  The fabric is super soft and flowy and the skirt is a great length for weekend wear.  I recommend sizing down in this one.  I am wearing a 6 for reference.  I love love love the dots, but, again, I came here with a purpose.  However, I might go back for this skirt.

Have you tried the collection out?  Were you able to pick any thing up?  Did you get me the midi skirt in an 8?!?

Foxes and Sparkles

There's nothing better than a big ole sparkly necklace.  Except maybe a big ole sparkly necklace on the clearance rack.  This sparkler was hanging out all by itself on the clearance rack at Banana Republic.  It had no price tag and it was a lonely little guy all by itself.  So, of course, I had to torture the sales associate completing his first week on the job.  The poor newbie couldn't find the product number on the computer.  If I was a nice, reasonable person, I would have told him it was OK and just gone home.  But, I really wanted it.  However, I did not realize that this poor dude had to take out a giant product book and look for it.  I started to feel bad when he took out the phone book sized Banana Republic guide.  Well, it was too late to turn back at this point.  While he searched, I went to get a coffee at Starbucks.  When I returned, he had found the necklace's SKU and told me it was $50 (plus 40% off clearance items).  It was a little more than I wanted to pay, but I had tortured this poor soul so much already.  But, then the necklace rang up at $29.50, plus an extra 40% off, making it $18!  Well, actually $22, after the cost of the Starbucks coffee I brought back for the hardworking associate that put up with my nonsense.
