Look What I Got: Hard Earned Prabal Gurung

Dress: Prabal Gurung for Target | Shoes: Dolce Vita via Marshalls (similar) |
Necklace: J. Crew Factory (worn, similar) | Sunnies: Betsey Johnson via Marshall's (worn, similar) | Bracelets: Groopdealz & C. Wonder (worn) |
Earrings & Ring: Nissa Jewelry (giveaway win from Lipgloss & Crayons)

Getting this dress was quite a journey.  I trekked to two different Targets the weekend the collection debuted.  However, unbeknownst to me, not all stores had the full collection and it was sold out online.  I thought all was lost...since there was no way I was paying above retail on eBay.  Then, by chance, I saw Carly of Lipgloss and Crayons wearing the dress.  (OK, not by chance...I read her blog everyday).  I commented that I loved the dress and couldn't find it.  Well, Carly replied that she had an extra dress that she ordered online....IN MY SIZE!   It was fate.  Carly and I did a quick Paypal transaction and the dress was in the mail.  However, UPS then held my package hostage.  It took several angry phone calls with UPS call center folks, but the Scot was finally able to rescue my dress from the depths of a sketchy UPS facility.  And then immediately after, I won Carly's giveaway for some fabulous earrings and a ring.  With all my treats from Carly, I was able to duplicate her outfit exactly.....I promise I am not creepy.
And now it's time for the link up.

My posts are mostly pre-recorded.  So, I will be making a prediction: I bet I am SUPER hung over today, and alcohol hung over.  In my old age, I've been getting food hang overs.  Yeah, you read that right.  If I eat too many unhealthy things all at once, I feel hung over the next day, even if I abstained from partaking in the sauce.  You see me here in one of my favorite outfits looking polished and bright and happy.  I am going to make another prediction: I actually look like the opposite of this today.

Update: I'm not feeling too bad today.  I exhibited some self control yesterday in the face of potato chips.  Who am I?

Stuff I Wore: Weekend Update

I copied this outfit from Annie of The Other Side of Gray because I had no idea how to wear this necklace.
Top // Banana Republic (similar here); AG Stevie Ankles // Anthropologie (worn here); Chunky Pemota Pumps // Target (worn here, similar here); Bracelet // Target (worn here, similar here); Necklace // Target (similar here)
I think my weekends are getting a little monotonous.  I started it out the same as always with a casual Friday (see above) and then I ate various kinds of chips covered in cheese and drank some beer.  No, I kid you not, I ate nachos and drank beer on Saturday AND Sunday.  I might need an intervention to deal with my cheese and beer addiction.  I will be hitting the gym HARD this week.
The weekend started off pretty good.  Friday night a miracle happened...I MADE IT TO HAPPY HOUR.  I was out of work before happy hour specials ended.  Happy hour is a ritual I had almost forgotten about.
However, Saturday I got back  into my normal weekend routine and partook in my favorite activity: over eating with Elena.  I tried a Sea Dog Wild Blueberry beer and it was pretty awesome.  It was smooth with a hint of fruitiness without tasting like a grape soda.

I washed that beer down with a food brought to us straight from the gods: potachos.  It's nachos made with potato chips.  Yes, you read that correctly...potato chips.

After Father's Day activities, I got home early enough to get back into my beer and cheese routine.  I tried out a limited release beer from Blue Moon: Agave Blonde Ale.  I found it to be mediocre at best.  It really just tasted like a sweet crappy pilsner.

But then we had nachos for dinner.  I'm really glad my mom doesn't read this.  She would be so disappointed.

Today I'm linking up here:

Don't you think this button should include a pic of Tina and Amy?

Stuff I Wore: Smile...Like a Human Being.

Last weekend I had a little photo shoot with my bestie Elena.  And I crashed and burned.  I pretty much turn into Liz Lemon in front of the camera.  I certainly hope you remember that episode where Liz has to film a promo for her TV show "Deal Breakers"....and this happens:
Source
Her mannerisms prompt Pete to say, "OK, smile ... with your mouth ... wave ... like a human being!"  Apparently, instructions to "act natural" or "smile like a human" have no effect on me.  Or maybe I just think natural acting humans scrunch up their face into weird configurations...and it didn't help that Elena and I can't be in the same room with each other for more than 30 seconds without laughing.
Here's the best we could do:
Shirt // J. crew Factory
AG Stevie Ankles // Anthropologie. worn here and here
Belt // J. crew Factory
Necklace // Anthropologie, worn here
Chunky Pemota Heel // Target
Ring // Avon (old)
And if you're wondering why it looks like I'm about to fall over...I was.  That's just me, hanging out in front of a screen acting natural while trying not to topple over.  On the bright side, when I wasn't about to fall over....look how long and lean my  legs look!

These shoes are really meant for short distance movements and for looking.  I have to remove one shoe to drive.

And do you have any idea how long it took to get this shot?  Elena stated several times, "Stop making a claw."  Why are hands so hard to pose?

Elena is working on her portrait work and I'm working on my face.  I have actually been practicing in the mirror.  It's really awkward when my roommate catches me.  In a few weeks you will barely be able to tell the difference between me and those Victoria's Secret ladies.

Shoesday: Pemota Chunky Heel Pump

Pemota Chunky Heel - Coral
I spied these beauties over at Target last week.  And I am in love.  They are great for spring and I am just waiting for them to go on sale.  They are the perfect heel: sky-high, but with a chunky heel making them a bit easier to manage.  When I pointed them out to The Scot he said, "They look like something a prostitute in Arkansas would wear."  What does he have against these shoes?  And Arkansas?
Pemota Chunky Heel - Leopard
And good, they come in Leopard.  I'll buy them too.
And here's how I'd style them, with all items from Target!

Stuff I Love: January 2012 Edition

It's already the 12th of the month and I haven't even done my Stuff I Love list yet.  I've got a backlog of OOTD posts and so many other ideas swimming around in my head.
1. Ringer
So, admittedly, I was obsessed with Buffy the Vampire Slayer.  So, when I heard SMG was making her triumphant return to TV, I was ecstatic.  And what a return it was, a double-crossing, evil twin, drug addiction, murder kind of triumph.  Ringer starts off with Bridget (SMG) escaping from witness protection after she witnesses a murder committed by a drug dealing mobster.  She flees to the safety of her estranged identical twin sister, Siobhan, who just happens to be married to a millionaire.  And wouldn't you know, as soon as she gets there her sister commits suicide, or so you think.  Bridget assumes Siobhan's identity and then the fun begins.  You can catch up on CW's website before the show's return on January 31st.

2. Rebecca Taylor
Since I've started shopping at Bloomingdale's (only for their after Christmas sale), I've discovered the wonder that is Rebecca Taylor.  Her dresses are feminine and flowy.  If it wasn't for the prices, they would be at the top of my wishlist.  However, a few of the items below are on sale at Bloomingdales....hmmm.

3. Bicycle Print
Have I lost my damn mind?  Do I need TWO articles of clothing with bikes on them?  YES, yes I do.

4. Bright Pumps
Bright colored pumps are everywhere this season.  I already have my bright blue pumps (seen here and here), but I crave more colors.  Target has an AWESOME coral pair that I am drooling over currently, but they are $30.  Who do you think you are Target?  I need them to be $20 before I crack.

Mossimo Pemota Chunky Heel Pump

And these lovely pumps lead me to my next January love...

5. Tangerine or Coral or whatever version of orangey pink you want to call it

6. Victoria's Secret Bombshell
Victoria's Secret Bombshell

This perfume is (I'm just going to say it) THE BOMB.  I'm usually not a huge fan of perfumes because I think that most smell like a potpourri ball inside my grandma's drawer.  (Did any one else's grandma keep a little satchel of smelly stuff in with her clothes...most likely from Crabtree and Evelyn?  No, I'm the only one with the crazy scented grandma?)  So, back to Bombshell.  This perfume is light and sweet.  Victoria's Secret tells me it contains vanilla orchid, yellow peony and purple passion fruit.  I assume that's a recipe for a form of scented crack, because I can not stop smelling it.  I've been wearing this perfume almost everyday and it somehow puts me in a good mood.

7. My Glam and Birch Box
It's pretty simple, you sign up for My Glam or Birch Box and receive a bag of 4-5 samples of beauty products each month.  You also have to pay $10 each month.  I just signed up for My Glam and I am super excited to receive my first bag of samples!  Their websites features product demos and tutorials for each of the samples each month.

I really need a signature here or something don't I?
