What I Wore Wednesday: Where Can I Wear This?

Bracelet & Rings: LC for Kohl's (worn) | Earrings: TJ Maxx

So, when I brought home this pale yellow dress with floral detail at the waist, the Scot's first response was, "Where are you going to wear that?"  My response?  "Every where!"
I actually did wear it to Easter dinner with my family.  And, just to spite the Scot, I have worn it out to dinner, to the movies and even grocery shopping.
So will you be getting your own little yellow dress to wear on the couch with your cats out this summer?
Here are some options....all under $100!

Neon in Niagara

Dress: Prabal Gurung for Target | Jacket: Old Navy (worn) | Shoes: LC for Kohl's (worn) |
Necklace: Lucas Jack via Rocks Box (worn) | Bracelets: Groopdealz & Bauble Bar (worn) |
Earrings: Hope & Stetson (worn) | Ring: Kate Spade via TJ Maxx (worn)

The Scot's parents have been visiting for the past 10 days, so life has been a little hectic.  Now that they have safely boarded a plane back to the mother land, I can return to my normal sedentary life.  However, I am happy that I have so many adventures to share with you!
We first whisked the Scot's parents away to Niagara Falls.  After an 8 hour car journey (that included over an hour wait in line at the border), we got them safely into Canada.  The Canadian border officials were very friendly...however, we seemed to get in a line in which every single car was full of fireworks.  Seriously, are American fireworks different than Canadian ones?  They were looking in trunk after trunk, slowing down the line.  However, you know what whizzed right through the border?  A pick-up truck with a rusty shed in the back.  So, that rusty shed couldn't have been full of fireworks?  We theorized that the driver was Jimmy of Jimmy's Shed Shack, Canada's #1 importer of sheds.  "Just one shed today Jimmy?  Ok...see you tomorrow."
And yes, I realize I took a picture on a random street in Niagara Falls and did not even include a picture of the Falls.  You'll get to see a whole lot of that tomorrow.  Today, it's just some neon paired with turquoise.  I was really proud of this color combo that I came up with.

Weekend Update: Polka Dots and Coming Out as a Blogger

Top: Very J via Stitch Fix (worn) | Jeans: Target | Flats: J. Crew via Plato's Closet (worn) |
Bracelets: Groopdealz & Bauble Bar | Necklace: Rocks Box | Earrings: Lauren Conrad for Kohl's (similar)

I am proud to report that after months of searching, I found the perfect pair of polka dot skinnies this weekend.  After the debacle that was the wonky-crotched Old Navy Rockstar skinnies, I went back out on the hunt.  And, of course, Target came through.  These jeans are the softest, stretchiest, most pajama-iest jeans ever....all for $25.
I immediately put my new dotted pants on for a dinner party at a friends house this weekend.  These friends live on a dead end street...the dream fashion blogger photo local.  So, the Scot and I had to sneak out of the gathering when the light was right to snap some photos.  And that's when I had to explain that I have a fashion blog...and what a fashion blog is.  It was my coming out...as a blogger.

Cats in Hats (and Blazers)

The name for this post will become apparent as you scroll down.  Just do it.  You will enjoy it.

Dress: Anthropologie | Blazer: Lauren Conrad for Kohl's (similar) | Shoes: Target (similar) |
Necklace: J. Crew Factory (worn) | Bracelets: Groopdealz, Forever 21, Bauble Bar (worn and here) |
Earrings: Lucas Jack via Rocks Box | Watch: Michael Kors (worn)

Yes, that is my sister dressed up as Cat in the Hat.  This weekend one of my cousins had a Dr. Seuss themed party for her son's first birthday.  In my family, we don't do small parties.  Go big or go home.  So, of course there had to be a costume.  I'm pretty proud of all the kiddos at the party, not a single one cried at the sight of Erin as a beloved (actually terrifying) story book character.  Seriously, do you remember the Cat in the Hat?  He broke into that family's home while the parents were out and just made a mess of everything.  I decided to forgo the obvious and did not make the Scot dress as the Thing 2 to my Thing 1 and just went with an understated cat print dress...so as to show my support for  my sister's performance and not upstage it.

Stuff I Bought: Whimsical Print Intervention

It's time for another edition of "Tara has lost her damn mind."  I did a little online shopping during Anthropologie's last round of sales and I had a little look in Kohl's after receiving a 30% off coupon.  (Kohl's was also offering $10 Kohl's Cash for every $50 you spend.)  And, well, then this happened:
If you followed me on Instagram you'd already know that I am cray cray
Yes, you are seeing that correctly.  I bought things in a bee print, an acorn print and a flamingo print all in one weekend.  I need a whimsical print intervention.  I can see it now: my friends and family sitting around me.  "Tara, your addiction has negatively affected my life in the following ways.  I can not look at you without laughing about how stupid you look wearing your flamingo dress and flamingo shoes."  And then I am hauled off to rehab, but not after screaming, "Please just let me buy a kitten print dress before I go to take the edge off!!!"
And here is a better look at the evidence of my insanity.
And of course my insanity knows no bounds and there are a few more crazy items on my list.  I'm getting mixed reviews on the flamingo shoes still.  I am on the fence, but I might fall off on the crazy side of the fence and get them.

However, I will be saying NO to anything bicycle printed.  I have reached my bicycle print quota for life.  Seriously, if I try to buy that Lauren Conrad dress, someone smack me.

This or That Challenge: My Aching Feet NEED Flats

Polyvore Set
Shirt // LC Lauren Conrad for Kohl's (similar here); Necklace // Friedasophie; Cardigan // Gap (similar here); Gentle Touch Pencil Skirt // Anthropologie (worn here); Bracelets // Forever 21 and Target (worn here, similar here); Little Feather Earrings // Anthropologie (similar here)

My first giveaway win!!!! (from Last Year of Twenty Something)
It's Day 2 of the This or That Challenge and it was a pretty easy one: flats or platforms.  I gave the platforms a really serious thought.  However, once I got up in the morning and stared into my closet for a good 10 minutes at the neatly lined up heels and platforms, I reached for my go-to Steve Madden nude flats.  And when I say I stared at the lines of neatly laid out shoes, I mean the mountain of shoes sitting in the bottom of my closet.  My shoe rack met a terrible death when my shoe collection became too much for it to bear.  Sometimes I can't find a matching pair of shoes and consider wearing mismatched shoes.  So, if you think that I wear the same three pairs of shoes all the time...it's because those are on the top of the pile and I decided not to give up and wear my slippers to work.

Also, I may have gone a little too far with the bird theme in this outfit.  Bird print top, bird necklace AND feather earrings?  Too kitschy?  Or just the right amount of crazy?

Stuff I Wore: Not in Mint Condition

Top // Lauren Conrad for Kohl's (similar shape here)
Cardigan // Joe Fresh (worn here, similar here)
Mint Jeans // TJ Maxx (similar here)
Nude Flats // Steve Madden (worn here and here, similar here)
You can't really tell here because of my awesome photo editing skills, but the color ran on these jeans.  The first time I wore them I got a little spot of makeup on them.  So, I rushed to get my trusty Shout spray.  As I squeezed the trigger I knew it was a bad idea as I watched in action movie slow motion as the color began to run with each drop of stain remover.  I wound up with a discolored drippy patch on my pants.  It was too late to change, so I just suffered through the day.  So, I decided I would wash my jeans (after wearing them one more time) and now I have what I can only describe as mint acid washed jeans.  I was devastated.  I know it's only a pair of $25 pants, but I searched for these for weeks.  So much internet shopping and store hunting down the drain.

TJ Maxx is all sold out and even Target doesn't offer a replacement.  Target has some great mint accessories, but nothing to replace my mint pants, sadly.   So I've now decided the mint distressed look is in.

I already have you in pink....but I think I need you in mint.  I'll collect watches.  It will be my thing.

Also, I've updated my "About Me" page, so you you want to know more about me, that's obviously the spot to go.

One of the benefits of shopping at nicer stores like J. Crew and Anthro is the service.  I had a particularly positive interaction with a J. Crew associate a few weeks ago.
I originally started the day off in these adorable Coach flats.  They're a few years old and I was perplexed as to why I hadn't worn them in awhile.  Around lunch time I figured out why; the top of the shoes dig painfully into my feet.  So, off to the consignment shop they went.
I had been eyeing this skirt for awhile at J. Crew.  So when it went on sale (plus an extra 30% off) I snatched it right up.  Unfortunately, I realized that the top button was hanging on by a thread.  I mentioned it to a store associate, but they didn't have any more in my size.  I figured, for the price, it was worth it to sew the button back on myself.  The store associate was nice enough to give me an additional 15% off on top of the already HUGE discount.  I think she gave me the student discount.  So, I got this skirt for $30 thanks to a sweet store associate.
