Neon and Lace

Somehow, I forgot to break out my neon pink skinnies all summer.  So, they're now part of a fall outfit.

In my book neon is totally appropriate for fall.  It just has to be paired with some darker hues.  I even went a step further and paired it with a big fall trend....lace.  So, I am considering this outfit a bridge between summer and fall.
P.S.  I am SUPER pissed that I forgot to take my cardigan off for these pictures.  This lace tank is sooo cute.  Just check it out up close and personal here.

Look What I Got: Neon and a Pencil Skirt

No. 2 Pencil Skirt: J. Crew (similar) | Shoes: Target (similar) | Tee: Target (worn, similar) |
Scarf: Dorothy Perkins (worn, similar) | Jacket: Old Navy (worn) | Sunnies: c/o Firmoo
Purse: Target (worn) | Bracelets: Coach, Favery & Forever 21 (similar, similar & similar)

I love a good pencil skirt for work, but I so rarely (or never) make them casual for the weekend.  So, after picking up this green beauty for $28 at J. Crew, I decided this skirt would come out for the weekend.  I also decided that a wool skirt could be worn almost until summer when paired with neon (and when the weather in New Jersey keeps switching randomly back to fall temperatures).
And now for the link up!

The Scot's parents have been visiting for the past 10 days, so life has been a little hectic.  Now that they have safely boarded a plane back to the mother land, I can return to my normal sedentary life.  However, I am happy that I have so many adventures to share with you!
We first whisked the Scot's parents away to Niagara Falls.  After an 8 hour car journey (that included over an hour wait in line at the border), we got them safely into Canada.  The Canadian border officials were very friendly...however, we seemed to get in a line in which every single car was full of fireworks.  Seriously, are American fireworks different than Canadian ones?  They were looking in trunk after trunk, slowing down the line.  However, you know what whizzed right through the border?  A pick-up truck with a rusty shed in the back.  So, that rusty shed couldn't have been full of fireworks?  We theorized that the driver was Jimmy of Jimmy's Shed Shack, Canada's #1 importer of sheds.  "Just one shed today Jimmy?  Ok...see you tomorrow."
And yes, I realize I took a picture on a random street in Niagara Falls and did not even include a picture of the Falls.  You'll get to see a whole lot of that tomorrow.  Today, it's just some neon paired with turquoise.  I was really proud of this color combo that I came up with.

Weekend Update: Beer and Neon

Ponte Academy Blazer: Gap (similar) | Peplum Ponte Tank: Anthropologie (worn, similar) | Jeans: Old Navy | Shoes: J. Crew via Plato's Closet (worn) | Purse: Target |
Floral Bouquet Petal Earrings and Floral Bouquet Spiral Necklace: Banana Republic (worn) |
Bracelets: c/o t&j designs (worn), Groopdealz (worn) | Ring: Rocks Box

This weekend was one of my favorite times of the year: the Atlantic City Beer Festival.  It was the perfect weekend...and warm enough for me to break out one of my favorite spring purchases, this neon blazer.  Maybe it looks a little bit like a crossing guard vest, but I am going to wear the crap out of this blazer thif spring and possibly direct school children across the street.
Because I am a terrible blogger (and drank quite a few beers) I really did not take any pictures during the festival.  I took a few snapshots of the ocean, of the convention center and of the Scot attempting to kick a field goal.  In case you were wondering, he didn't make it.  Actually, before I intervened, he set the stand up backwards.
So, after a 4 hour session of trying beers from countless breweries, we staggered home and took a nap.  We probably shouldn't have partaken in the $5 forties the night before.

Weekend Update: I Don't Like Soccer

Tee // Victoria's Secret (similar here); Skirt // J. Crew (similar here); Flops // Coach via Marshall's (worn here, similar here);
Bag // Juicy Couture via Bloomingdale's (similar here)

Watch // Fossil (worn here, similar here); Spike Stretch Bracelet // Asos (similar color here);
Bead Bracelet // F21 (worn here, similar here)
This is an outfit I wore out to a bar to watch the final game of the European Championship (and to take pictures in a parking garage...a completely normal weekend).  I have to be completely honest: I HATE SOCCER.  It is just the most boring thing I have ever watched.   Having a Scottish boyfriend who loves soccer makes my hate of the sport a little complicated.  My hatred is especially hard to maintain while the European Championship is taking place.  However, I have found a light in the darkness that is a soccer, a reason to love the sport.  His name is Mario Balotelli.  It was love at first sight.  While playing in one of the first games of the European Championship for Italy, he missed a goal.  His response: he punched the ground.  I relate to his Italian temper.  My paternal grandparents are Sicilian.  (He's actually Ghanaian, but was born in Sicily and adopted by a Sicilian family).  He's always getting himself into trouble with his temper and his mouth.  Again, I relate.  When you watch him play, you're going to get a good show.  He's either going to be kicking goals in backwards over his head, or punching things.  He is a man after my own heart.  I was first drawn to him because of his outrageous behavior, but watching him play is pretty magical.  However, if you read up on his past and about the horrible racism he faces, you understand his anger.  During the European Cup fans were making monkey noises at him and one even threw a banana at him.  Seriously Europe, it is 2012!!!  He restrained himself, but I am pretty sure I would have tried to punch an entire stadium.  I don't advocate his outbursts of anger.  I merely understand them and realize that they make for good stories.  Anyone remember Dennis Rodman?  TV gold right there.  Balotelli is also only 21 years old, so he might grow out of it into a mature adult in a few years.  So, thank you Mario for giving me a reason to love soccer.  Also, the Scot loves you because now he gets to watch an entire soccer game without me whining, "I'm boooored!" every 5 minutes like a spoiled brat.
I really hope no one that actually knows any thing about soccer reads this...because I realize now that this whole post sounds really dumb.

Stuff I Wore: Stripes and Neon

Sorted Stripes Dress // Anthropologie (worn here, similar here);
Tory Burch Reva Ballet Flats // Bloomingdale's (worn here); Necklace // Colorblock Shop

Today we're back to my random ramblings and no discussion about my clothes.  The other day I was in Bloomingdale's with the Scot, we were just passing through staring longingly at the expensive goodies.  I spied a teenage girl with an armful of expensive looking dresses, pants, skirts and well any thing she could carry, heading off to the dressing room.  A woman, that I assumed is her mother, was trailing behind with even more designer duds in tow.  The mother stops, looks at a mannequin wearing a gorgeous white peplum dress and exclaims, "Honey, you should try this one on!!!"  The teenager, exasperated, whines, "MOOoooommmmm!!!!  I already have that dress stupid!!!  Hurry up!!"  She stomped off to the dressing room leaving her mother embarrassed about her horrid child's behavior.  Seriously?  You own a dress still featured on the mannequin?  You didn't even wait a little while to see if it went on sale?  AND you bought a teenage girl a white dress?!?  That will be covered in Cheeto dust or ripped in no time.  That mother is wasting so much money.
After this unfolded before me and I had a million thoughts about what was wrong with this situation running through my head, I looked at the Scot and said, "When I have enough money to shop here, I will shop here and my kids will shop at Old Navy."  Actually, I will probably still shop at Old Navy.  Who am I kidding?

Friday's Fancies: Strawberry Kiwi

**Don't forget to check back later for my Weekend Sale Roundup!

The other day I decided to dress up like a bottle of Strawberry Kiwi Snapple.  (I previously wore a similar outfit here).
Skirt // The Limited (worn here, similar here); T-shirt // American Eagle (worn here, similar here)
Necklace // The Webster for Target; Flip Flops // Steve Madden (worn here, similar here);
Bracelets // Target (worn here, similar here); Sunnies // Coach (similar here)

And if you were wondering, yeah I colorblocked at the office.  And not just any old colorblocking, NEON color blocking.
I broke one of my cardinal office wear rules and wore flip flops to the office.  I know, I know.  I am a rebel, but I am ashamed.  My second office wear rule is NO LEGGINGS.  Please ladies, heed my cries.  Leggings have no place in the business casual office, or in a doctor's office, or in court.
Ok, back on track with my flip flop faux pas.  I don't normally recommend wearing flip flops to the office, but it was 95 degrees!!  And I forgot to change shoes after I took the dog for a walk.  It's a good thing I remembered to bring the dog back inside before leaving for work.

Friday's Fancies: Brought to You by Pinterest

I have Twitter AND Facebook now.  Follow and like me!

Pink Jeans // Gap (worn here, similar here); Neon Yellow Shirt // Target (worn here, similar here)
Scarf // Marshall's (similar here); Leopard Flats (worn here and here, similar here)

This week for Friday's Fancies, we had to copy an outfit. I will be honest, I would have never in a million bajillion years paired neon yellow with pale pink. I can only take about 10% of the credit for the brilliance that is this outfit. I totally copied this outfit from The Pink Peonies that I found on Pinterest, except I used much cheaper items.
Pinterest evokes so many emotions in me: anger towards those people that have these perfectly organized homes, while I have piles of clothes on the bedroom floor and piles of dog hair accumulating in ever corner, jealousy towards those girls that can take a $5 t-shirt and make it look like a $1,000, and rage towards those people that can turn pipe cleaners into a work of art without burning off their fingerprints with hot glue.  Yet, I keep going back for more punishment.  It also evokes an intense desire to shop.
Have a great weekend!

Stuff I Wore: Goin' on a Picnic

This week's theme for Friday's Fancies is Picnic Primped.  I am assuming we'll see a lot of A-line floral dresses.  Now, I love a great A-line floral dress.  However, I decided to go a different way....NEON 80's PARTY PICNIC!!!
Neon T-Shirt // Target, similar here
Denim Skirt // Eddie Bauer, similar here
Canvas Sneakers // Target
Necklace // Express, similar here and here
Hat // Marshall's, similar here
Ok, I have safely determined that neon and canvas sneakers are back in style (Target told me that).  But, are denim skirts back?  They better be, because I found this baby crammed behind a suitcase in my closet and it's ready to see the light of day.
Ring // Old Navy, similar here

Watch // Fossil

Ok, and here is my pretty picnic dress...that would match my picnic blanket.  I would also like to say for the record that I've never been on a picnic and that if I did really go on one I would not wear either of these outfits.  Sitting on the ground in a dress or skirt is perfect weather for a wardrobe malfunction.

And if you're wondering, yes all of my photos today were taken by the lovely Elena.  She mostly photographs plants, but has been branching out into people pictures lately.  Check out her Flickr page. If you'd like a print of any of her photos, just send me an email (pennilesssocialite@gmail.com).  Elena does charge for prints of her photos, but it's a small fee.  My house is decorated with many of her prints.
