This week's Friday's Fancies theme is "Sweater Weather," which is perfectly timed because I don't have heat or hot water after Hurricane Sandy.  So, it's actually sweatshirt and blanket weather inside my apartment.  And the water pressure is so low that I can't get the shower to work.  I washed my hair in the kitchen sink and I will spare you the details about how I bathed my body.  

And  now you're wondering, "Why couldn't you put on a sweater for this week's theme?"  Well, I am currently wearing several sweaters, but no pictures will be taken of me until I can take a proper shower.  Thankfully, I have some fingerless gloves so that I can type this.  I am cold and cranky.  Luckily, I saved some outfit photos for just such an occasion.

Weekend Update: I sat through an entire soccer game

My Weekend Update, again, is about the previous weekend.  I'm a super busy person and just don't have time to write a post on Sunday night.  Actually, I'm a super lazy person and need my Sundays to watch marathons of idiotic TV shows.  This weekend was Intervention...but more about that at a later date.

I went to a soccer game in Philadelphia last weekend.  I know, I hate everything in that sentence too.  The Scot's favorite team, the Glasgow Celtic, played a friendly against Real Madrid at the Eagles' stadium.  (I think I said everything right).  See how I coordinated my green pants?  I have team spirit (and I like my green pants).

I personally did not think it was fair to have the small Scottish team play against the powerhouse of Real Madrid.  I know enough about soccer to know that Real Madrid is GOOD.  The Scot's take on this: "It's just nice to be invited."  

So, I dragged myself out of my Jersey cocoon into Philly.  You know what's worse than a stadium full of Eagles fans?  A stadium full of Scottish soccer fans.  Just kidding.  It's really just a bunch of drunk people singing.  So much singing.  None of the Celtic fans really cared about the score (or the game at all).  They just sang the day away.  I'm not really sure how they made it to the end of the game.  I thought they'd be like a bunch of 5 year olds and just had to tire themselves out.  The Scot managed to contain himself.  Celtic only lost 0-2.  The Scot called it a victory.

My Target Mantra

You've probably noticed a few changes around this little blog.  I've been brainstorming this change for weeks and finally got to it last night....at 11:30pm.  I'll probably be making some more changes in the coming days.  I just can't decide if I want a 2 column or 3 column layout.  I know, life is tough.  I'd love your feedback on the new layout and any suggestions.

Target is a dangerous place.  I have to walk around the store chanting, "Put it the F*$K back!"  There;s so much temptation, from cute dresses, to bracelets to lip gloss.  I was chanting my mantra at Target the other night when I saw this polka dot peplum beauty.

Yeah, I was making my clothing purchase decision in the cat food aisle.  It's usually where I can be found in Target.  Don't judge.

And if you were wondering, yeah I colorblocked at the office.  And not just any old colorblocking, NEON color blocking.  

I broke one of my cardinal office wear rules and wore flip flops to the office.  I know, I know.  I am a rebel, but I am ashamed.  My second office wear rule is NO LEGGINGS.  Please ladies, heed my cries.  Leggings have no place in the business casual office, or in a doctor's office, or in court.  

Ok, back on track with my flip flop faux pas.  I don't normally recommend wearing flip flops to the office, but it was 95 degrees!!  And I forgot to change shoes after I took the dog for a walk.  It's a good thing I remembered to bring the dog back inside before leaving for work.

As I sit here watching My Big fat American Gypsy Wedding, I'm beginning to wonder if we've over-saturated the reality TV market.  There are three show about pawn shops (Pawn Stars, Cajun Pawn Stars and Hardcore Pawn), two shows about hunting wild pigs (American Hoggers and Lady Hoggers), three shows about hoarding (Hoarders, Hoarding: Buried Alive, and Animal Hoarders), countless wedding shows and dating shows.  I'm astounded that there's an entire show about people bidding on abandoned storage units (Storage Wars) and that there is an upcoming show all about people bidding on abandoned baggage (Baggage Wars).  Don't even get me started on the industry of fraud that is ghost hunting shows.  I have to be honest....I watch more of these shows than is healthy.  I have been known to sit on the couch for hours crying over wedding shows and cringing over hoarders.  However, I worry that we are stretching the genre too thin.  This weekend I watched Deep Fried, a show about a food stand called Chicken Charile's at a county fair.  Ok, Chicken Charlie can deep fry pretty much any thing, but the biggest "drama" in the show was the LED sign shutting down.  It was painful to watch.  Let's face it, not every job is interesting.  There should not be cameras in my office watching me read cases and watch briefs.  Uh oh!  It's Friday and Tara's secretary left early...how will she ever make copies or send a letter?!?!?!  I do not want to watch people hot glue pipe cleaners to stuff (Craft Wars), but I will watch Randy of Say Yes to the Dress makeover brides on a bus (Randy to the Rescue).

Stuff I Wore: St. Patty's Fancies

So, on St. Patrick's Day I put on a pair of green pants and celebrated.  It was one of the most perfect days ever.  I had brunch at my apartment where we drank mimosas and watched my sisters Seton Hall Pirates lose to UMass in the Not Invited Tournament.  Then we went to an Irish pub and finally wound up at a bar at a pizza place where we drank towers of green beer.  We finished off the day at my mom's house with a feast of corned beef, potatoes and cabbage.  ( I had penne vodka).  A perfect day.
And I also found out that the Scot really can't work a camera.  He got the low light setting confused with the Auto setting.  I messed around with the color settings on this photo forever (or like 15 minutes) and this is what I came up with.

I feel as though I'm that neighbor.  You know, the one all the other neighbors talk about and just can't quite figure out.  Yep, that's me.  So here are a few of the reasons why:
1. I can often be heard yelling "No!" "Get out of there!" "Don't eat that!"...at the dog or the cats.  The other night one of the cats got a hold of a chicken bone off of the Scot's dinner plate.  I proceeded to chase the cat around yelling "Catch him! He has a chicken bone!  He's going to choke and die!"
2. One day the dog did her business and then proceeded to sit down right in a pile of her own business.  So, I had to try and clean her butt off with a baby wipe.  However, my dog thought I was playing a game and tried to run away, so I was chasing the dog around outside with a baby wipe.  I am pretty sure all my neighbors think I wipe my dogs butt every time she poops.
3. I talk to my dog A LOT.  Sometimes I forget I am outside in front of other people and I'll be talking to her.  "Gaia what should we have for dinner?"  "Gaia, hurry up, I have to get back to my TV shows."
4. AND I prance around outside while the Scot takes pictures of me.  The chill from the cold weather and my embarrassment are the reasons that most of my photos are taken indoors.

AND did you notice I'm trying out the whole cuffed jeans thing?  I was a little scared, but I think I pulled it off.

Stuff I Love: March 2012 Edition

So, it's halfway through March and I haven't even done my love list.  So, here it is.

1. All Things Green and St. Patrick's Day.  This includes the Shamrock Shake which I have already written about.  I seriously have too many green dresses, 4.  What am I talking about?  You can't have TOO many of a great thing.  And be proud, I have limited my Shamrock Shake consumption to 2 this season, soon to be made 3 tonight.

Ok, this poster is super creepy, but for those of us that are members of the cult of Don Draper, it speaks volumes.  Will Don be falling deeper into an alcoholic adulterous pit despite his new marriage?  I hope so.  Ok, shut up, Don Draper is not a real person.  It's OK for me to wish bad things upon him.  Seriously, you can only cheat on your wife so many times before I get pissed.  Wait, am I angry at a fictional person?

I missed out on seeing it opening weekend because all the showtimes were sold out.  Stupid kids.  But, I got to see it last weekend...and it was AWESOME.  I think it's exactly how Dr. Suess would have wanted it.  And Danny DeVito was the perfect choice for the voice of the Lorax.  He kind of even looks like him.

4. Doomsday Preppers.  This is the most awesome show ever.  There are people stockpiling meat in jars and building underground bunkers.  One of my favorite parts of the show is when they tell you the scenarios the people are preparing for are pretty much impossible.  So, the Earth isn't going to flip on its axis causing massive earthquakes?  And we aren't going to run of out oil and immediately resort to cannibalism?  I guess I should return the 3 years worth of canned corn I bought.

Stuff I Wore: A Rebecca Taylor to Call My Own (OOTD 1.28.12)

I've been drooling over Rebecca Taylor dresses in Bloomingdale's for quite some time now.  I fell in love with this floral patched dress, but at $325 it was waaaaay out of my budget.  So, I waited, and stalked.  It finally went on sale around Christmas for $162.00, but I thought that was still a little too much.  Then it happened, the stars aligned.  Bloomingdale's sale items were an extra 50% off after Christmas, bringing the dress to $81.00.  But I didn't stop there.  I was then able to use a 10% off coupon I received for signing up for Bloomingdale's emails.  AND I was able to stack it with a 15% off online purchases coupon.  If you're doing the math...I got the dress for $60.75!!!!  Yeah, that's like 19% of the original price!!!

I debuted the dress at my cousin's baby shower.  And yes, you are seeing this correctly, those are my bare legs in January.  Ok, I was a little bit cold.  And that is a new hair cut.  I had a hair appointment that morning and just decided to go a little crazy.

If you have wide hips I recommend sizing up in this dress.  The bottom is narrow and has no stretch in it whatsoever.
